When talking about camping, there are a lot of places that might come to mind. But, if you’re looking for one of the best, the Winnipeg Beach Provincial Park should be on your list.

This campground is famous for its various facilities that provide the right comfort to make you feel as if you are at your own home. Off about 78km north of Winnipeg on Highway 9, locals and visitors alike can now enjoy a fulfilling camping experience.

All campsites provide water, electricity, and Wi-Fi, plus, 100% of these sites are pulled through. This means that you can go and play to your heart’s content while driving your RV from one site to another.

The expansive land area of the Winnipeg Beach Provincial Park offers recreational activities from camping to fishing, volleyball, cycling, tennis, and water sports.

However, while it provides a complete camping package, firewood is not included. So, you would need to bring some with you or buy from a store.

But you don’t have to worry because we looked into it, and we guarantee you that some campsites inside sell firewood. Although, the prices are a little higher than if you purchase it outside.

Another thing to note is that Winnipeg Beach Park has strict regulations for its campers. To offer fair access to the public, it regulates the use of each campsite by limiting the number of days the campers can stay in the area.

Lastly, we learned that there are some sightings of black bears around the vicinity, however, rest assured that security measures are in place for the safety of all campers. That’s why there haven’t been any reported incidents of a bear attack.

Moreover, should you need further assistance and assurance regarding your safety and security, Winnipeg Beach Park has Patrol Officers to aid you with whatever you might need in your camp.

If you want a full-blown camping experience in the woods, Birds Hill Provincial Park is definitely the one you should check out! It is one of the few campgrounds with wide campsites, totalling up to 254 basic sites.

Here, you can do recreational activities such as hiking, horseback riding, cross country skiing, mountain biking, and wildlife viewing.

If your interest is more in watching events such as horse shows, polo tournaments, and cycling races, then Birds Hill Campground is where you want to be.

Plus, pets are allowed here! Just make sure that you keep them on a leash.

The campground’s basic site includes a lot of trees that are perfect for people looking to get in touch with nature while also enjoying a bit of privacy.

In addition, the day-use areas such as picnic tables, fire pits, and picnic shelters are accessible all throughout the park. This means that you can go anywhere you want and still find a suitable place for your picnic desires.

It also offers electricity, Wi-Fi, and water for the convenience of the campers.

Additionally, Birds Hill Provincial Park regularly hosts a variety of events. So, you can just imagine the liveliness of the park from these activities alone.

It is one of the reasons why this campground is heavily booked, especially during the summer season.

For campers who love to set up their own tents, the terrain could just pose a bit of a challenge in putting the pegs through the ground, so if you have any luggage to help weigh down your tent, it would really be a big help.

Aside from this, just like with any other campsites, it also has issues with wild animals, but no worries! They won’t bother you as long as you do not intentionally harm them.

And we made sure that there are patrols in the park who could offer round-the-clock protection.

Another issue is that its official website lacks information, which makes it difficult to know the status of the park, especially in terms of the number of occupants.

You would really have to call to secure a spot and inquire about other details. Nevertheless, it should not be enough reason for you to not check it out!

Pros

  • Good and clean facilities
  • Trails for biking and walking
  • Pet-friendly
  • Fun recreational activities
  • Various entertainment activities

Cons

  • Appearance of wild animals
  • Lack of information on its website
  • Hard to set up tent pegs

Very managed campground

“A gem in Manitoba. It was our first time visiting the province and we are happy we picked here as our first stop! Friendly park staff and very managed campground. Pool, beach, trails and night sky to enjoy!”Yan Wang

Lots of privacy

“… we’ve always stayed in grackle bay (basic site) and bring portable phone charging blocks for the teens, or charge in the car. I like that bay as it’s been super quiet, kids playing but not an over whelming amount of people for not so sociable people like myself lol. It is hard to put pegs for the tent in the ground, but we use our luggage in some corners where the pegs wouldn’t go into the ground. Treed in areas so lots of privacy. There are also tons of prairie dogs, but you tend to get used to them, I guess. They will rip your garbage apart though so take it to the bins regularly. I never previously wanted to camp there as I didn’t get a “camping” vibe from previous beach days but we have grown to love it and that camping vibe has set in!” — Anna

Feeling stuck on the road and in need of a momentary oasis to rest? Winnipeg West KOA Journey is the best place for you to go.

This campsite serves its customers not only with a great camping experience but also convenience. With a 10-minute drive west of Winnipeg through Trans-Canada Highway #1, you can already find yourself in an ideal campground for a picnic, camping, and RVing.

This campground offers full-hookups, back-in, with 20/30 amps that are well-suited for your family’s convenience. You can also enjoy its playgrounds, pools, and stores that hold your supplementary camping needs.

Plus, you won’t have to worry about tourist attractions and fun activities as it is only 10 minutes away from the city. You can do golfing and shopping, and combine all of this with barbecue, fishing, swimming, and resting on the camping ground.

However, we found it a bit bothersome that there is a lot of noise coming from the highway, given that it’s in close proximity.

Nevertheless, you can enjoy your camping experience as sites are fairly distant from each other — giving you the privacy and peace you need.

The campsite also has a gas station and convenience store that are perfect for travellers. On top of that, it provides water, electricity, Wi-Fi, a laundry facility, and shower rooms.

You also don’t have to worry about your food, because the cafe restaurant offers excellent and authentic food on its menu.

However, we learned that there have been some complaints about its dusty surroundings, and there are only a few trash bins or garbage cans around.

Overall, this campground is highly recommended by many and a perfect choice if you are looking for a campsite that is definitely accessible and convenient.

Pros

  • High-quality services
  • Online reservation
  • Gas refilling station
  • Convenient amenities
  • Easy access
  • Good security

Cons

  • Highway noise
  • Muddy and dusty surroundings

Our trip was worth it

“We are in our way back to NB as we took a cross Canada trip to the Rockies. We have stayed in some hits and misses. We finally booked a KOA as you usually know what you are getting. The pool are looks brand new and my kids were in it within minutes of checking in. Our site was a back in and flat and even. It is small and has many trees. It is clean. It IS right along a highway but so many of our campgrounds have been. A little white noise and we will be fine. The convenience of driving right onto the TC to continue our trip is worth it.” Natasha L.

Super friendly and knowledgeable

“The guys who run this place are great! Super friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The location is good, but it is right beside the highway, so the noise of the traffic can be a bit much. It is also fairly open and dusty. The bonus is that they have a small pool with a splash pad for the kids! The Esso station adjoining the park is very convenient.” Geoff Rice

Looking for a perfect RV campground where you can enjoy tranquil surroundings and breath-taking prairie landscapes? Arrowhead RV Park is surely the campground to be!

This campsite offers about 30-to-50-amp sites that are mostly pull-through. With full hookups, room for slide-outs, and big rig sites to accommodate RVs of all sizes.

Arrowhead RV Park also offers 54 sites with Wi-Fi. However, internet access is not covered in the camping fee.

Other amenities and services offered are restroom and showers, laundry, firewood, escort to the site, and onsite RV services.

Furthermore, it is surrounded by recreational activities such as archery, hiking, rock/mountain climbing, boating, ATV riding, casino, mountain biking, fishing, and snow and water sports!

We think it’s truly a campground of various activities that you might consider if you plan to go camping with your family, friends, or even alone.

However, we learned from some campers that there are some issues regarding its freshwater hookup area as it is only a few inches from the sewer. The management has promised to act on this issue and is working on further developing the space.

Along with the development attempt comes the plan to transfer the big rigs placed in the newer section that has no trees, grass, or landscaping.

So, if you’re looking for this campground’s signature view in your five-wheel truck, you might need to opt for a walk towards its more natural area.

For updates and further information, Arrowhead RV Park’s website is well-updated so you can check it out and book an online reservation for the site of your choice.

  • Scenic landscapes
  • Quiet and peaceful surrounding
  • Expansive land area
  • Wide variety of recreational activities

A great place to stay to explore Winnipeg

“This is one of the cleanest RV parks we have been in. Lise, the owner, gave us a wealth of information about things to do in Winnipeg. The sites are spacious and level with crushed rock. This is a great place to stay to explore Winnipeg or to just relax.” Robert C.

Very good wifi service

“Very nice place to stay when visiting Winnipeg. Not a very long drive to the city. Gas and restaurants close by. Very friendly. Nice spots with some trees. Very good WI-FI service, with a charge but well worth it. I would stay here again.” Larry J.

The Brereton Lake Campground is known to be a gem that’s highly worth the long drive. It is located along Brereton Lake, a placement that allows its campers to enjoy plenty of recreational activities such as swimming, canoeing, sailing, and/or fishing.

On the other hand, if your choice of recreational fun is not water sports, don’t worry! It also features the Amisk Hiking Trail where you can enjoy the scenic forest and over rock edges of Rennie River.

Other activities that can be done here are picnics, birdwatching, and wildlife/nature viewing.

However, it only offers a limited amount of campsites, specifically 8 electrical and 20 non-serviced sites.  Plus, we found out that there is poor cell reception in the area that might get in the way of your enjoyment if you prefer to remain connected to the internet.

But despite this limited campground, the area still includes a playground and picnic shelters. You can also access a grocery store, laundromat, and restaurants that are just a few walks away.

To ensure the campers’ safety and security, patrol officers and park attendants are stationed around the area for immediate response.

The Brereton Lake Campground truly offers the spirit of a nature-based experience. But if you’re planning to stay for a while, you might need to note that showers are not included in its facilities.

Regardless, it is definitely a must-visit on your list if you’re looking for a highly immersive and fun camping experience!

Customer Reviews

Great for swimming

“Terrific day fishing – caught and released some Perch and 1 small Jack. The lake though is very shallow in many spots and first-time boaters should watch out for the numerous rocks lying just beneath the surface – locals know where they are but none are marked which is dangerous. The Wednesday was not very busy at all but I understand there are loads of boats, seadogs etc. on weekends. Hoping to return here again later this month – great for swimming too from what I hear and I did see a small beach near the boat launch. This was my first visit to Brereton and really liked everything about it.” Brad R.

Very clean

“Very clean camp sites.. my only issue was there was no showers.. washrooms are clean as well.” Larry J.
