The good news is you don’t have to fly to the Mediterranean to experience mouthwatering Greek food because Winnipeg is home to some of the best Greek restaurants.

If you’re looking for a fancy place that serves Greek breakfast, lunch, and dinner specialties, Taverna Rodos Restaurant and Lounge in Robin Boulevard might fulfill your cravings.

This restaurant dons a contemporary take on the classic Greek style of eateries. Such an interior design adds to the warm, relaxing, and well-managed ambiance of Taverna Rodos.

Additionally, the sophisticated and clean interiors will most likely bring customers back to dine again. It is no wonder we were told that Taverna Rodos is one of the best Greek restaurants in Winnipeg.

In terms of food, Taverna Rodos’ wide selection of Greek specialties is perhaps why many customers recommend it as a go-to Greek cuisine stop in Winnipeg.

For one, you can check its lunch and dinner menus online and see for yourself the array of dishes you can choose from.

And if you want to mix and match your food, Taverna Rodos’ breakfast menu consists of typical Western foods, such as bacon, eggs, toast, pancakes, and hashbrowns.

Besides offering many food options, Taverna Rodos’ also presents customers with the choice to request some dishes to be gluten-free.

Some of the dishes with gluten-free alternatives include souvlaki (chicken, pork, lamb, and shrimp), Greek salad, caesar salad, garden salad, avgolemono soup, Greek-style ribs, garlic butter shrimp, broiled chicken breast, steaks, pork chops, and lamb chops.

Taverna Rodos’ management also encourages customers to mention any food allergies or dietary restrictions. That way, customers will get their orders exactly how they want their food to be.

Should you be ordering for take-out or food delivery, remind the staff about any food intolerances or restrictions you have. The last thing you want is to eat food items you don’t like or end up in the hospital because your allergies got triggered.

Likewise, you want to get the most out of what you’ve paid for. Some customers noted that Taverna Rodos’ prices are on the heftier side, but they reflect the portion sizes and food quality.

Now while Taverna Rodos has a wide array of dishes, one downside we were told of is that some dishes might not always be freshly made.

For example, a customer was not satisfied with their Greek platter being served cold. When they requested a hot dish, they were served a lukewarm dish instead.

Another downside a few customers noted is that Taverna Rodos’ delivery system might not be as convenient as it should be.

For instance, one customer mentioned that it is better to dine in or opt for food take out; they said that every time they go for food delivery, either their orders get canceled or they get the wrong food item.

Now, if you decided to dine here and received cold or lukewarm food, we suggest politely returning the dish and asking for a fresh and hot one. After all, it is your right as a paying customer to be served freshly cooked and well-prepared hot meals.

In addition, we honestly think that Taverna Rodos should evaluate its staff and remind them of the importance of serving nothing but the best dishes and service.

That way, the restaurant can maintain its overall quality, keep loyal customers, and invite new ones to choose it as the must-stop for Greek cuisine.

Pros

  • Has breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus
  • Offers gluten-free options
  • Open to changing its menu based on allergic and dietary restrictions

Cons

  • Pricey
  • Delivery isn’t the best option
  • Customer service needs fine-tuning

Fresh and well-made Greek dishes.

We went there for a private event and really were expecting a few appetizers and good visits with friends. What we got was minds blown because this is the most amazing Greek food we had ever had. I have never been a fan of lemon potatoes but these melted in your mouth like butter. The Greek salad was amazingly fresh right down to the olives. The ribs & chicken souvlaki were perfectly seasoned & went perfectly with the pita, hummus & whipped feta. The spanakopita was my favorite. Flakey wedges of love you know someone made by hand. We will be back and I don’t know if I will ever stop talking about how good this place was! – Lindsay Cliche

Awesome and friendly staff.

We hosted a private party at Taverna last night. It was AMAZING. Monika and her stuff busted their butts making sure everything was perfect. I came to them with my budget and they worked well within it. Restaurant is always clean and organized. Staff was AWESOME, friendly and worked so hard. Food was FRESH, hot and in abundance. Everyone was talking about it! Really cant thank them enough!

Highly recommend doing an event with them. – SSSkettering J

If you take a look at some eateries in Greece, you’ll notice that outdoor dining close to the coast has a romantic charm that elevates the Mediterranean experience.

Fortunately, Kristina’s at Corydon Avenue is a Greek restaurant that offers patio dining. Plan a weekend brunch in this place and relish the cool air while you and your family or friends chat over delicious Greek food.

And with COVID-19 still present, outdoor dining might just reduce the risk of getting infected or breaking social distancing.

However, one downside we were told about its patio dining option is that Kristina’s limits customers to dine outdoors for only an hour.

While this protocol may seem upsetting, we think that it is because of Kristina’s location.

Since Corydon Avenue is a flocked-to place in Winnipeg’s business district, the influx of people coming to and fro the area may increase the risk of infection.

That said, we believe that Kristina’s is just doing its best to keep its customers safe and free from COVID.

But if you want to experience the restaurant’s patio dining area, we suggest planning when you’ll dine in. That way, you’ll know which foods to order and make the most of your one-hour limitation.

Now, let’s talk about the food. Some customers praised Kristina’s for serving excellent Greek cuisine, while others noted that the restaurant may need to fine-tune its food selection.

One customer wasn’t happy about getting woody, bland, and overcooked vegetables. Another mentioned that the Greek salad had too many lettuce leaves but little dressing.

Apparently, the dressing wasn’t also that flavorful, so the salad tasted dull.

Regarding meat dishes, customers lauded Kristina’s for serving tender and well-seasoned lamb chops. But with other meat dishes such as the ribs, steak, and chicken, some noted that the meat was either too dry or over-peppered.

With many customers expressing their disappointment towards Kristina’s food servings, we believe that the restaurant needs to improve the way they prepare each dish.

For one, Kristina’s price range borders on the high-end range. Imagine paying $20 dollars for food that is bland and has small servings?

If Kristina’s on Corydon wants to keep its customers and invite new ones in the future, as well as live up to its modern Greek aesthetics, it has to keep up with top-caliber restaurant standards.

On the bright side, we still recommend Kristina’s as an ideal place to dine with friends or to hold small celebrations.

The restaurant presents a huge selection of wines imported from Italy, Spain, Belgium, Australia, and the United States.

While the wines aren’t Greek, customers said they complement Kristina’s Greek cuisine quite well. That said, we think the array of wines is perfect for those who want a chill evening with friends, co-workers, or business partners.

And if you need to bring some kids with you, Kristina’s has a menu catering to children! For just $9, you can choose between chicken souvlaki, grilled cheese, cream or tomato pasta, or chicken fingers! All of these come with a side of fries and a drink.

Pros

  • Has a patio dining area
  • Offers a kids’ menu
  • Offers a wide array of wines

Cons

  • Has a patio dining area
  • Offers a kids’ menu
  • Offers a wide array of wines

Amazing food and a one-of-a-kind place

First time going, for a Friday night is was busy, but not overcrowded. The food was AMAZING! Had the fire cheese (I don’t know what it’s called, but it will forever have that name in my heart) and it was delicious! Followed up with Greek salad and moussaka with veggies. Everything was spectacular, came quickly and service from our server (who has apparently been working for the family since she was 14) was amazing. Weirdly, the show stopper for me was the carrots. Again, everything was delicious, but the carrots were beyond. Perfectly cooked, amazing flavours and apparently just what I was craving! Thanks for the experience Kristina’s! – Jessie Cuthbert

Feels like having dinner at a friend’s home.

Kristina’s is like going for dinner at a good friend’s home. A true Greek restaurant, but they are not afraid to add a little flair to the traditional Greek. Great specials. The family that own and operate the restaurant genuinely love and welcome their guests.  Very passionate about their restaurant, and it always shows every time we go there. One of a kind. – Ken Ball

In Greek literature, Mount Olympus is the residence of the twelve prime gods. On the mountain’s peak, the gods are known to experience opulence and great dining and drinking escapades.

And while the Mount Olympus we know doesn’t house any mythical being, you can still somehow recreate the dine-and-wine experience of the gods by heading over to Olympia Diner at Portage Avenue.

This restaurant is owned by a Greek couple, so we think customers will be served authentic Greek and Mediterranean dishes.

Some of the must-try dishes at Olympia Diner include lemon-roasted potatoes, Greek-style fries, Greek-style ribs, lamb chops, and village salad.

Customers who have traveled to Greece noted that these dishes are made exactly the way locals make them.

And to add to your romantic Mediterranean-like dining experience, choose a table at Olympia Diner’s patio area. You’ll relish delicious food with fresh air and warm sunshine!

Now, while Olympia Diner prides itself in presenting original Greek cuisine, some customers mentioned that this quality is inconsistent.

There are times when the restaurant serves excellent food, while there are also times when food tastes so bad and bland.

As a result, customers either return them and ask for new ones or never dine in the restaurant again.

And because Olympia Diner prides itself in its Greek owners and gift to bring people closer to Greek food and culture, we believe it is crucial for the restaurant to be consistent with how it prepares its dishes.

Food quality is perhaps the most vital factor for any restaurant to thrive. Plus, customers won’t appreciate beautiful interiors and excellent customer service that much if they don’t like the food.

Still, Olympia Diner’s owners and staff do their best to respond to customers’ queries and improve its facilities.

In fact, the restaurant just renovated some of its interiors and furnishings. So if you’re after a fresh-looking space to enjoy Greek food, then Olympia Diner is the right place for you.

Pros

  • Owned by Greeks
  • Offers patio dining
  • Perfect for lunch and dinner

Cons

  • Food quality is inconsistent

Amazing food and experience!

We last enjoyed Olympia Diner a few days ago when my family tricked me into attending a surprise anniversary dinner there. All four of us ordered something different along with several appetizers. Everything was fabulous and very delicious. We really enjoyed not just the food, but the whole experience, because the staff were so wonderful. Even the decore was great; the renovations were fresh and new, yet they kept true to the Mediterranean family environment. I know the renovations etc have been challenging, but the owners and their staff have completed them, and come out even better than they were before hand! We had an awesome evening! Highly recommended!!! – Fred Coad

Big food portions and excellent customer service.

I LOVE authentic Greek food and had a very nice meal here. It was my first time dining at Olympia Diner and I have to say that I am sad that I didn’t discover this restaurant while I was still living in Winnipeg! The portions are quite large so come hungry. My friend and I shared the calamari and the Greek platter which was more than enough food. The service was super friendly and efficient. The drinks were equally as good. I definitely recommend Olympia Diner! – Lesley

Another elegant Mediterranean-inspired dining spot that serves Greek cuisine in Winnipeg is Steve’s Bistro in Portage Avenue.

Like most bistros in the city, Steve’s Bistro offers many types of wines and cocktail drinks. It is an ideal place for people to enjoy chill brunches or dinners with friends or colleagues.

Of course, refreshments won’t be complete without delicious food. Fortunately, Steve’s menu offers an array of Greek food that complements its drink roster.

Notable Greek foods you should try include traditional village salad, souvlaki in pita, lamb chops, gyro, mussels, calamari, peppered shrimp, and chorizo shrimp.

If there will be downsides, Steve’s Bistro prices are on the heftier end; its food selection is also smaller than its drink menu.

Still, we recommend this restaurant as we were told that size portions were enough to feed at least two people.

And while Steve Bistro’s menu is more limited than the other entries in this article, we think that its selection of Greek cuisine will be adequate for introducing food lovers to the savory flavors of the Mediterranean.

Besides generous food portions and several drink options, Steve’s Bistro is also praised for its excellent and accommodating customer service.

For example, one customer was happy about how one staff assisted them with their orders; the staff even recommended some dishes as the customers weren’t that familiar with Greek food.

Another happy diner thanked Steve Bistro for being so accommodating and treating them like family. They even noted that they’ll return with friends and loved ones.

Speaking of being accommodating, Steve Bistro also takes into account customers’ food allergies, intolerances, and dietary restrictions.

We recommend mentioning any allergies or intolerances you have when you order. You want to enjoy your Greek meal and Steve’s Bistro’s ambiance without compromising your health.

Pros

  • Has various wine and cocktail selections
  • Has menus for solo and group dinners

Cons

  • Closed on Mondays

Great place for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Steve’s Bistro has become a regular attendance for us for breakfast, lunch and dinners. What keeps us coming back?…The friendly and attentive staff and also the consistency of preparation of the dishes. You can always count on Steve and his staff preparing your meals with a touch of Greek flavor and you can trust that it will always be consistently great. Today was no exception when 6 of us attended for breakfast and we had the Greek omelette, BLT and of course the Winnipeger. We highly recommend Steve’s Bistro as your destination. – Billy Domud

Astounding atmosphere and great service.

Steve’s Bistro is hallowed grounds in our neighbourhood. This is in part due to Steve and his outstanding staff. If Steve isn’t greeting you at the door, he’ll make sure to visit your table during your visit. His teams food is absolutely amazing and about as traditional Greek as you can get this side of Crete. If you want to partake in a few post meal beverages this is the place. Again, outstanding atmosphere coupled with equally great service and great prices. – Robert Bidder

If the name Mr. Souvlaki doesn’t convince you to try its array of Greek food, then we don’t know what will.

Besides its namesake, Mr. Souvlaki prides itself in providing freshly made food cooked on Greek-style grills and with traditional cooking methods. That way, customers will enjoy food that tastes like it flew all the way from the Mediterranean.

And because its name is Mr. Souvlaki, patrons of the dining spot recommend its souvlaki platter with rice, roast potatoes, Greek salad, and tzatziki dip.

You may also select from grilled chicken, spicy chicken, or pork to complete your souvlaki platter. We were told that Mr. Souvlaki’s portions are huge and the meats are well-seasoned.

That said, you’ll enjoy flavorful meals that will satisfy you, and perhaps make you want to return for future meals.

Now, Greek food is known to be ideal for vegetarians and vegans. But in the case of Mr. Souvlaki, despite having a selection of greens, some dishes might not be great for those who prefer a plant-based diet.

For instance, the potatoes and rice are cooked in chicken stock, meaning they aren’t vegetarian or vegan friendly.

One customer noted that only the plain green salads are the meals suitable for non-meat eaters. With these, we think that Mr. Souvlaki might not be a suitable place for vegans and vegetarians.

On the contrary, should you dine with non-meat-eating friends, the restaurant’s array of salads is still fulfilling and comes with well-flavored dips and dressings.

Overall, we still think Mr. Souvlaki is a must-try Greek restaurant in Winnipeg. It offers great traditional Greek cuisine, huge portions, and worthy prices.

Additionally, regular customers also praised the dining place for its accommodating staff and well-maintained ambiance.

Pros

  • Offers huge portion sizes
  • Has affordable prices
  • Meals come with drinks and sides

Cons

  • Doesn’t have that much vegetarian-friendly food
  • Delivery is only between 11:00 AM to 7:30 PM
