Top 7 Pumpkin Patches Near Winnipeg for Fall Fun and Festivities

When Winnipeg’s summer greens turn into hues of orange and gold, I always find myself eagerly anticipating one of my favorite fall traditions: visiting pumpkin patches.

Whether you’re hoping to carve a jack-o-lantern or bake a pie, Winnipeg has incredible farms that grow a variety of pumpkins—from tiny decorative fellas to massive twenty-pounders.

And if, like me, you enjoy wagon rides and corn mazes as much as pumpkin picking with the entire family, we’ve got a few farms in mind for you.

So grab your favorite sweater, and join us as we dive into the best pumpkin patches near Winnipeg.

Instead of a patch of pumpkins, A Maze in Corn has the Great Pumpkin Barn. They always fill it with hundreds of decorative and edible pumpkins, which come in all shapes, sizes, and colors.

If you don’t mind getting your hands dirty, wait for their U-pick events and harvest the pumpkins yourself with some cutters and gloves.

Beyond pumpkin picking, this farm features a variety of seasonal activities, such as hay rides, zip lines, and an expansive corn maze. It’s a memorable way to celebrate the autumn season with family.

Pro Tip:

To join the fall activities at A Maze in Corn, you must buy tickets (we recommend doing it online). If you want to pick pumpkins, you’ll need a General Admission ticket and a pumpkin pass, which typically costs an extra $5.

Located outside of the city, Deer Meadow Farms’ charming rural setting is an ideal destination for families seeking fun-filled adventures during the fall season. From petting zoos to pumpkin patches, it has a wide array of activities the whole family can enjoy.

The farm has a 5-acre pumpkin patch, which they harvest early in September. Then, they pack and sort everything in bins, so all you have to do is pick the pumpkins you want.

We like the variety of pumpkins they have, especially the sizes. Some can reach up to 50 lbs., perfect for creating hand-carved and illuminated jack-o-lanterns for Halloween.

Pro Tip:

If you plan on visiting Deer Meadow Farms more than once during autumn, you might as well get season passes. You’ll be entitled to unlimited visits from May to October and discounts for different activities.

Farm tour: $75 for a group of six people

Living Well Farm is a small, family-run farm where you can get all your quintessential decor for the autumn season. They don’t have a lot of fall activities, but it’s still a great place to pick some pumpkins, especially if you plan on eating them.

They use natural, sustainable farming methods, which you will know more about if you go on their farm tour. From the low-maintenance gardens to the green pastures where they raise their chicken, you’ll see the passion and effort they put into farming.

Although they don’t grow the largest variety of pumpkins, they still have an excellent selection, which includes our favorite—Sugar Pies. They also have ornamental mini pumpkins and Neon varieties for carving.

Pro Tip:

They have a first-come, first-serve policy. If you want to get your hands on your favorite varieties, you must stop by when they open the pumpkin patches because they run out fast.

Another family-run farm worth visiting is Schwabe Pumpkins. They grow thousands of pumpkins and gourds in their 5-acre property on Henderson Highway, north of Winnipeg.

You won’t have to do any backbreaking farm work to get some pumpkins. Just show up at their farm when they open for the season, and then they’ll have an entire barn full of pumpkins, all categorized according to variety.

Since it’s a small, operated business, they don’t have the usual fall activities besides pumpkin picking. Still, it’s worth the trip, especially if you’re looking for affordable options and great variety.

Pro Tip:

Bring your own bags or boxes, especially if you plan on buying a bunch of pumpkins.

Lavallee Pumpkin Farm is another small, family-operated farm producing pumpkins, squash, and gourds. They have different varieties, all sorted out and labeled in boxes, so it’s easier for you to choose what you want.

If you’re not familiar with pumpkins or you’re simply looking to try other kinds, the friendly owners and staff will be happy to lend a hand. They only accept guests by appointment, making it ideal for those who want to avoid huge crowds.

Although there aren’t a lot of activities here, you can expect them to set up fall decorations where you can take lovely photos with the family.

Lavallee Pumpkin Farm has a Facebook page, where they post updates on their harvests and opening hours.

Location: 5 Miles West of #1 and #16 on the South Side, Portage La Prairie

Phone: +1 204 595 6543

Activities: Pumpkin picking, petting zoo, hay bale, photobooths

Just an hour from Winnipeg, the Sheepy Hollow Pumpkin Patch offers a fun and affordable U-pick experience. Even kids can do the light farmwork in areas where the vines aren’t too overgrown because they can get long and prickly.

They can, however, help tow your pumpkin-filled wagon around the farm. If you don’t have a wagon, we recommend getting one so you won’t have to carry heavy loads while choosing pumpkins.

Don’t miss out on their goodies at the roadside stand. They usually have straw bales and other freshly harvested produce on display!

Pro Tip:

Contact the staff and get on the farm’s waiting list. Before heading out, wear long pants and sturdy shoes as there will be lots of walking along prickly vines.

In her 3.5-acre patch, she has around 60 different varieties of pumpkins and winter squash. They also come in various sizes, shapes, and colors, so you can go crazy with your fall decor.

The best part is that she knows all about the varieties she grows. If you just ask, she can easily help you pick out the ones that suit your needs.

Pro Tip:

LP Farm sells produce at different markets. If you ever need more pumpkins but don’t have the time to drive all the way to her farm, head to the South Osborne Market in Winnipeg.
