New Lantern Festival Is Set to Light up Winnipeg’s Night Sky on September 6 and 7, 2025
Start new traditions at Winnipeg’s first-ever Lantern Festival. It will take place in Chinatown on September 6 and 7, 2025, from 12 noon to 9 pm.
We’ve had water lantern festivals in Winnipeg before, but they were never an annual tradition—until now. From here on, we can all look forward to this annual community gathering filled with musical performances, delicious eats, and family-friendly activities.
Instead of just buying a lantern, you can decorate and personalize your own at a local workshop. After, show off your creation at the parade on Saturday, September 6, at 9 PM.

Aside from a sky full of glowing lanterns, you can look forward to other cultural events like the Lion and Dragon Dances. As of now, they’ve yet to release the full festival schedule, but more details are expected to come out in the coming weeks.
Entrance to the festival is free for all, so you might as well check it out.
