The Little Opera Co Honors Black Divas and MLK With a Tribute Concert This March 2025 in Winnipeg
The Little Opera Company is celebrating its 30th anniversary season with a heartfelt tribute to the unsung black divas who shaped opera. The event will take place at St. Andrew’s River Heights United Church in Winnipeg on March 14 and 15, 2025.
Jonelle Sills, one of CBC Music’s Hot 30 Classical Musicians under 30, will sing her heart out for these divas. Her performances never fail to captivate our hearts, making her the perfect artist to honor the voices that have long deserved recognition.
She will be joined by lyric soprano Erin Cheeseborough, whose impressive career includes stints with the Metropolitan Opera, Chicago Lyric Opera, and more.
The Loc Ensemble will also do a musical tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK), who is known for his contributions to the American civil rights movement. They will highlight Dr. King’s story, lifelong vision, and legacy through song.
In a time when stories of resilience and justice feel more urgent than ever, we know the performance will resonate deeply with audiences.
