The 5 Best Asian Supermarkets in Winnipeg That You’ll Want to Visit Again and Again
Every time I watch a Korean series, I suddenly have a strong craving for tteokbokki—chewy rice cakes, simmered in a sweet and spicy sauce.
The first time this happened, I had no clue where I could get it. So I ended up sad, sitting on my couch, and just imagining what tteokbokki tasted like while watching Yumi’s Cells.
But now that there are more Asian stores popping up around Winnipeg, I can finally try the snacks, drinks, and meals I see on screen.
To help you satisfy your own cravings, we rounded up and reviewed our favorite Asian supermarkets in the city.
1. Lucky Supermarket

Address:
- 1051 Winnipeg Ave
- 1303 Jefferson Ave
Phone: +12042728011
Business Hours: Daily, 9 AM–9 PM
Just 11 minutes from downtown Winnipeg, you’ll find Lucky Supermarket, one of the go-to stores for Asian delicacies, snacks, and spices. They’re in Maples as well. Since it’s near the residential neighborhoods in the north end, it’s a convenient stop for everyday grocery runs.
According to the customers we interviewed, their items are cheaper compared to other stores, which is what keeps them coming back. Even the fresh produce and meats are fairly priced.
The shelves are always stocked and well-organized. The aisles, however, are a bit small, which makes us feel boxed in, especially on the busiest days.
And unfortunately, they no longer have a dine-in area where you can get a hot meal after checking out. Now, you can only order takeout.
Diverse selection of products
Lucky Supermarket is one of the few Asian Grocery stores in Winnipeg. It has a diverse selection of products and a lot of ethnic foods. It is pretty clean, and the service is very friendly. Great asian supermarket.

Huge variety of specialty frozen fish and meat
Haven’t been here for years but Lucky Supermarket did not disappoint. I left happy with delicious food at a reasonable price as usual. I was here on a Tuesday so missed the pig’s head on ice in the butcher shop that I’d see on weekends but the huge variety of specialty frozen fish and meat is still amazing.

2. Seafood City Supermarket

Address: 2311 McPhillips St Unit 307
Phone: +12042028404
Business Hours:
- Monday-Saturday, 8 AM–9 PM
- Sunday, 9 AM–6 PM
Seafood City is a Filipino-owned supermarket chain in North America. As you can probably tell from its name, it’s known for its fresh seafood, including milkfish, sardines, crab, mussels, and other popular staples in the Philippines.
Although they offer low-cost and premium options, the selection can vary depending on the season and the supply. On some days, they’ll sell large prawns or bluefin tuna, which can be pretty pricey.
The majority of their products are Filipino-made, but they carry brands from all across Asia as well. That includes spices, drinks, and snacks from China, Japan, and Korea.
We like that the store is quite spacious and well-organized, which makes it easier to find what you need. And from what we’ve been told by the regulars, the staff are friendly and attentive, so you can rely on their assistance every time you visit.
Great food and excellent service
I had a fantastic experience at Seafood City! The quality of food was absolutely top-notch, fresh, and flavorful. Every dish we tried was delicious. The service was just as impressive. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. They were happy to answer questions and made great recommendations. Overall, I highly recommend SFC to anyone who loves great food and excellent service.

3. Sun Wah Supermarket

Address: 303 King St #113
Phone: +12049449162
Business Hours:
- Monday-Friday, 9:30 AM–8 PM
- Saturday, 9 AM–8 PM
- Sunday, 9 AM–6 PM
Sun Wah Supermarket is a go-to for all things Chinese. From sauces and spices to household necessities, they offer an impressive selection of affordable products here.
They even sell baked goods, such as soft, slightly sweet pineapple custard buns and savory pork buns. These are made by local Asian restaurants, so you get that comforting, fresh-from-the-oven taste with every bite.
What we look forward to each time we swing by are the monthly events and discounts. To save big on groceries, you should keep an eye out for their promos, which they always announce on their socials.
The only problem we encountered was the language barrier. When we talked to other shoppers, they shared that they, too, had trouble asking for assistance because some of the staff members couldn’t speak English fluently.
Affordable supermarket
Affordable supermarket for Chinese groceries, wide range of products available for purchase and the cost can be lower compared to other places. I prefer to visit this store regularly to check things on a deal.

Reasonable prices
Probably the oldest Chinese supermarket in Winnipeg. Very rich merchandise. You can get stuffs that you can’t find in other supermarkets. Always lots of things to buy. Prices are reasonable. Staffs are helpful on checkouts. Sometimes, you can get free stuff when you exceed a payment amount.

4. Young’s Trading

Address:
- 397 William Ave
- 1000 McPhillips St.
- 2188 McPhillips St.
Phone: +12049570230
Business Hours:
- Monday-Saturday, 9 AM–8 PM
- Sunday, 9 AM–6 PM
Now with three branches across the city (and counting), Young’s is bringing affordable Asian ingredients closer to neighborhoods across Winnipeg. They’ve got spices, fruits, fresh seafood, produce, and meat.
According to the customers we interviewed, they prefer the McPhillips location. Because of its size, it has more options, which you won’t find in the other branches.
Even though the selections vary per branch, we love that they have weekly specials and deals across all the stores. Throughout the month, you can get huge discounts on various items for a limited time.
And if your total reaches at least $70, they’ll even give you freebies!
They always have fresh produce
Visited the new Mcphillips store, wow! It’s such a big store! I love the set up and variety of items available. I found quite a few items that I’ve never seen at the other stores, so I was very happy to try some of them. Young’s is definitely my go-to for Asian groceries, they always have fresh produce and bring in many imported food items.

They offer a wide variety of noodles
This is a great place to shop! If you are Asian, you will find many familiar products that remind you of home, such as prawn chips, Kopiko chocolate, and Rayea Ko Saag (spinach). They also offer a wide variety of noodles. Additionally, there is a cosmetics section where you can find Fino hair masks.

5. ING Supermarket

Address:1873 Pembina Hwy
Phone: +12042694444
Business Hours:
- Monday-Saturday, 10 AM–10 PM
- Sunday, 10 AM–8 PM
If you’re from the southern end of Winnipeg, ING Supermarket is a must-visit. They have an extensive selection of Japanese, Korean, and Chinese products, as well as fruits, vegetables, and proteins.
One of the things we like about this spot is how competitively priced the fresh meats are, allowing you to stock up on quality cuts without going over budget. However, their imported snacks are more expensive than what you’ll find at other stores.
For first-time shoppers, the clean, well-organized space makes it easy to navigate. The only problem is that the aisles are so narrow that it feels cramped even with only a few people around.
Some of the customers we interviewed praised the staff members for going above and beyond to assist, especially non-Asian customers who aren’t familiar with the imported goods. They shared that the employees make the drive to the store worth it each time.
Very reasonable prices
Very clean and organized. Great selection of noodles and price is very reasonable. They have the best prices in the meat selection. The price and quality for pork belly beats anywhere else!

Well organized and clean
This place has everything and is so well organized and clean. A little pricey. I will drive past 3 other stores for this location because I know they will have what I’m looking for. They even have a fresh meat counter at the back.
