Our 8 Best Beer Gardens in Winnipeg That Make Every Pint Taste Better

I once told my friends I was heading to a beer garden, and they thought I’d finally taken up gardening. Imagine their surprise when I came back with stories of cold pints and patio laughs instead of tales of dirt and daisies.

But hey, I always say—why grow vegetables when you can grow your circle of friends over a crisp lager?

Winnipeg’s outdoor drinking spots are proof that the only thing tastier than good brew is enjoying it under the prairie sun with a great view and even better company.

Now, if you’re like me and believe a pint hits differently when paired with fresh air, here’s your guide to the best beer gardens in our city.

Each one has its own vibe, so whether you’re into backyard-style hangouts, riverside patios, or cozy courtyards, I’ve got you covered!

1. Blue Note Park

Location: 220 Main St

Must-have beer: Classic Pilsner

Blue Note Park is one of my favorite places in Winnipeg to unwind. This beer garden feels both lively and relaxed, with plenty of outdoor seating that’s perfect whether you’re out with a few friends or rolling in with a big group.

Most of the tables are shaded by umbrellas, so even on those bright, sunny days, you can enjoy your time without squinting or sweating too much.

Now, as per beers, their lineup of local craft brews is nothing short of fantastic.

They’ve always got a great selection on tap, from crisp pilsners to easy-drinking blondes, and they’re constantly switching things up to feature new flavors from the city’s best breweries.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the choices, start with their Classic Pilsner. It’s popular for a reason—clean, crisp, and refreshing enough to make you want to stay for another round.

Must-have beer: Lake of Bays Red Ale

Another option you can rely on for a beer garden spot is The Common. The outdoor seating area has plenty of room, with tables and chairs arranged so groups of all sizes can settle in comfortably.

Plus, the surrounding trees offer just the right amount of shade, making it a great setting to sip on your drink while having a good conversation with friends.

One of the commendable features of The Common is their rotating selection of 20 beers on tap, handpicked by their craft beer curator, Hailey Tennant.

A couple of local favorites that I’ve seen go over well are the Lake of Bays Red Ale and the Bellwoods Spicy Margarita Jelly King Sour.

And the best part? Many of these drinks are brewed here in Manitoba, so you’re getting a real taste of the local craft scene!

Must-have beer: 1919 Belgian Pale Ale

This cozy taproom and open-concept brewery is like a breath of fresh air—literally. With its natural light pouring in and an appealing vibe, it’s the kind of place that makes you want to stick around and chat with friends for hours.

They recently built their patio, and it’s quickly become a go-to, especially in the summer. It’s got such great energy—you can sit back, sip on your beer, and soak up the outdoors.

Plus, it’s dog-friendly! So, if you’ve got a furry friend tagging along, they’re more than welcome.

When you go, try the 1919 Belgian Pale Ale. It’s got this spicy, herbal aroma and malty flavors—picture the comforting taste of freshly baked bread in liquid form. The low bitterness and dry finish make it super drinkable, even if you’re not a big beer person.

Must-have beer: Monkey Trail Pale Ale

One thing that really stands out at One Great City Brewing Company is the design. The brewery and restaurant are separated by a massive 300-square-foot stretch of glass, which gives everyone an amazing view no matter where they’re sitting.

It’s a perfect mix of sleek steel and glass, softened by local reclaimed wood, so the aura feels modern but still comfy and inviting.

If you’re looking for a beer recommendation, you can’t miss the Monkey Trail Pale Ale. This drink is known for its balanced flavor with enough malt sweetness and a nice kick of hop bitterness to round it out.

Oh, and before you leave, swing by their little retail shop! They’ve got everything from clothing and gifts to beer accessories—perfect if you want to take a little piece of One Great City home with you—or grab a souvenir for someone who appreciates a good brew.

Must-have beer: Old Ale X

Nonsuch Brewing Co. is a cozy little microbrewery with a focus on Belgian-style ales and a menu full of shareable plates inspired by local flavors.

The taproom itself is super inviting—ideal for kicking back and savoring their award-winning brews.

But if the sun’s out, I’d suggest grabbing a spot on their patio. It’s got a great aura for enjoying a cold one outdoors, surrounded by good vibes that feel like home.

The must-have beer here is their Old Ale X. It’s a bold and complex beer with a higher ABV, and believe me, if you pair that with a chicken burger, some beer-battered onion rings, or squash salad, you’ll be in heaven!

Brazen Hall Kitchen & Brewery is all about the art of small-batch brewing. With 10 taps pouring their own creations, there’s always something fresh and unique to try.

When it comes to outdoor seating, it is designed to accommodate both intimate gatherings and lively groups.

It’s spacious enough and thoughtfully laid out, with picnic-style benches and large umbrellas providing shade so you can sip your beer comfortably.

And if you’re like me and can’t leave your dog behind, you’re in luck—the patio is dog-friendly! You’ll see plenty of furry companions lounging while their humans enjoy a pint or two.

Add in staff who are genuinely friendly and attentive, and you’ve got the kind of place where everyone feels welcome. Whether you need help picking the perfect beer or just a water bowl for your pup, you’re covered.

Speaking of drinks, if you’re into sours, go for the Valkyrie Cherry Sour. It’s fruity, tart, and packed with the flavor of BC cherries—basically summer in a glass.

Must-order beer: LBJ’s 1919 Belgian Pale Ale

Built from a 20-foot shipping container, this pop-up patio in Assiniboine Park puts an innovative and modern spin on outdoor dining and drinks. You’ll find a great lineup of beverages, including cocktails, mocktails, local craft beers, and wines.

People always come back because of LBJ’s 1919 Belgian Pale Ale. It’s a hometown favorite, with premium Canadian malts and specialty Franco-Belges malts that give it unique characteristics.

Now, the entire setup is outdoors; it can hold up to 100 people, but keep in mind—it’s first-come, first-served, so arriving early is a smart move, especially during peak times.

The tables here are nicely spaced out to ensure physical distancing, and if you’re coming with a small group, you can even book the rooftop patio for a more private experience.

Oh, and here’s a bonus: it’s both family- and pet-friendly, so bring the kids, and your pup, or just come as you are!

Must-order beer: Barn Hammer’s 66

This bilingual bar has such an outgoing, alluring atmosphere—it’s like the whole joint is designed to put you at ease.

Outside, the charm only grows. The patio is a slice of eco-chic heaven, filled with lush greenery that complements the big, buzzing terrace—indeed, a homey aura that makes you want to stay all night.

And for those who love Canadian wines, spirits, or craft beer, you’ll appreciate this place more. Their drink menu celebrates local talent, with microbreweries taking center stage.

One specific drink people keep on raving about here is the Barn Hammer’s 66. This New England IPA, with its smooth, citrusy notes and a 6.6% ABV, was practically made for lazy evenings on the patio.
