Featured Image Source: RMCAD

Looking for a more aesthetically pleasing environment for your weekend R&R or maybe a custom design to streamline your WFH setup?

Good thing there are plenty of options here in Winnipeg for the interior designers who can help with that! For today’s list, we reviewed the top ones and went over their strengths, weaknesses, and more!

How Much Interior Design Services Cost in Winnipeg

Before heading to our list of the best interior designers in Winnipeg, we have to talk about cost. The price will depend on several things, like if you will pay the interior designer per hour of work or pay flat rates where you will get a design for your whole room or entire house.

When it comes to per-hour rates, it also depends on the caliber of experience the designer has. Anyway, here are some estimates based on current prices:

Type of DesignerPer-Hour Rate
Junior DesignersApproximately $100
Experienced Designers$150-$500

For flat rates, it depends on whether the interior designer will work on a single room or an entire house.

And, of course, you have to count the labor hours exerted by the designer (e.g. the time spent working based on the volume of designs to be produced, the number of revisions requested, etc.).

Scope of Interior Design ServiceFlat Rate (Starting Price)
Single Room$2,000
Entire House$5,000

The Best Interior Designers in Winnipeg

As we’ve already tackled the potential costs of employing interior design services, we can now dive into the best ones within Winnipeg.

We checked out myriad designers’ services, surveyed their past clients, and assessed their portfolios. At the end of it all, these were the ones with the strongest results.

1. DLUX Design & Co.

The main reason DLUX Design Co made it to our list is that they let you own the creative process for your space. Their in-house interior design process is all personalized to meet even the smallest details of your goals.

Working with them feels like a collaborative effort because they keep you in the loop of things. For instance, they have a customizable E-design service that provides you with an inspiration board, space plan, and shopping list that you can modify at your own pace.

Looking into their portfolio, their signature style includes a mixture of both modern and classic Tudor. So if you want that modernized English royalty vibe at home, they’re a nice place to start.

The best part about all these is that you don’t have to pay skyrocketing rates. Their selections are cheaper than the ones you get from more famous brands, yet typically of the same quality.

Speaking of quality, we love how they just know how to match aesthetics with functionality. Apart from your visual preferences, they also study what your everyday needs are and integrate them with the design.

As an end result, you get a space that seems to be molded out of your daily regimen. Your interior design won’t just look good, it also adjusts to your needs, not the other way around.

This entry might not be suited for those looking to redesign non-residential spaces, though. And given that the firm is still fairly young, their experience might fall short of an ability to deftly branch out into other categories.

  • Personalized designs
  • Has an E-Design service that lets you directly participate in the planning phase
  • Friendly staff
  • Reasonable price

  • Focused on residential design
  • May lack experience

Customer Reviews

High commitment to their work

“We consulted with DLUX early in the fall regarding giving our 18 year old kitchen a facelift. My wife met with Rosemary at our house. Rosemary suggested we all meet with one of her designers and see if we were all on the same page before proceeding any further. My wife loved Rosemary’s and Carlene’s vision for our kitchen. I was more concerned about the budget and quality of work. Fast forward to March and we have our new kitchen. Everything was explained to us before we started. The workmanship was second to none, the quality of staff was perfect, and most importantly the work was completed on time and on BUDGET!!! Carlene did a fabulous job of putting up with my OCD and making sure the trades did everything properly. We met at the end and any little issue I found was addressed and fixed up to our satisfaction. I would recommend Rosemary, Carlene and the whole DLUX company without hesitation.”

Innovative in designs and adjusts accordingly to their customers

“Rosemary, Amanda and Jessica were absolutely fantastic in designing and managing the construction for our River Heights home renovation. It is a character home and they helped us maintain original features but update them with more modern colours and finishes. They also did an excellent job in furniture placement and pickings that matched our style, while still bringing some new elements we wouldn’t have normally picked out on our own. We are so pleased with the results and love our home! Their attention to detail is unparalleled and they are so wonderful to work with!”

Broad skill set for residential interior design, open for different types of work

“Fantastic company. We used them for a number of projects in our new facility including millwork, counters, tile, and window treatments. They were prompt, came with great ideas, met timelines with ease and kept us up to date throughout the process. Would recommend them to anyone.”

Everitt Design was our love at first sight in terms of the interior design process. And we’ve yet to get over its extensive portfolio of both commercial and residential spaces.

Now, their signature style is modern aesthetics, mostly using earth tones as the base design palette. But we like how they sometimes place bright green, blue, or colorful pieces that give a space a more “fun” look.

The even more fun part is that you’re in command of what you get – as usual. The difference is, they bring innovative solutions to the table so you get expert recommendations of what to mix and match.

We also took interest in the range of services they can do for clients. Apart from the usual site analysis and space planning, they also do custom millwork and lighting and plumbing selection.

And if you’re not sure what you can and can’t do with your space, they’ll do a building code review for you. Plus they consult with architects and engineers to ensure a barrier-free design.

By the way, if you’re a fan of unique or designer pieces, you’ll have access to discount pricing. You can give your space an upscale feel without paying upscale prices which is always a good deal.

As a cherry on top, the company has already bagged various awards since its founding in 1998. Its most recent accolade is the 2021 ThreeBestRated Top 3 Interior Designers in Winnipeg.

One slight hitch we found was that the quantitative information, mainly prices, on the website could be improved. They have a robust portfolio online, but virtually no estimate as to how much their services are.

  • 20+ years of experience in the field
  • Award-winning
  • Specializes in furniture layouts
  • Designs for both residential and commercial sectors
  • Has social media accounts that supplement information for your search

Customer Reviews

Scientific and comprehensive design

“Interior design is the art and science of understanding people’s behavior to create functional spaces within a building. Decoration is the furnishing or adorning of a space with fashionable or beautiful things. In short, interior designers may decorate, but decorators do not design.  Interior designers apply creative and technical solutions within a structure that are functional, attractive and beneficial to the occupants’ quality of life and culture. The interior design process follows a systematic and coordinated methodology—including research, analysis and integration of knowledge into the creative process—to satisfy the needs and resources of the client.”

Keen eye for details – Demaris L.

“We worked with Rob on a complete home renovation when updating our 1980’s bungalow.  We showed him pictures of what we liked and he took those pictures and came up with a design and plan that was beyond anything we could ever have imagined.  His vision and his keen eye for detail really sets him apart from the rest.  I would recommend Rob and his team over and over again and look forward to working with them on a future project.”

Designs are harmonious to you and your lifestyle – Cathie Z.

“After purchasing an older home in River Heights, we worked with Rob Everitt to turn our 90-year-old character home into a modern space, while maintaining the interesting architectural features.  In our meetings with Rob, he listened to our ideas for the house and incorporated colours and design to create a warm and comfortable space.  Rob deserves the credit for transforming a historic residence into a family home that we cherish every moment.  Thank you for sharing your expertise with us.”

If experience is your benchmark, then you’ll like Fenwick & Company Interior Design. Over the years, they’ve produced thousands of residential and commercial designs for Toronto clients.

One of the things that stood out to us is their versatility in adapting designs. Unlike other companies with a distinct approach, their signature style is your style.

So whether you like something more tame and elegant or visually insane, they’ll adapt to it like a chameleon. If you want to take our word for it, we’ve looked through their portfolio and they’ve landed each unique design every time.

We’re also big fans of their ability to wrestle with tasks both big and small. They can simply rearrange your furniture or strip your walls bare depending on your needs.

Of course, all these come as a streamlined process, kinda like a one-stop shop for interiors. This involves conceptualization, space planning, material finishing, construction & documentation, and staging.

Their portfolio mostly consists of residential designs however. So if you’re looking to revamp your work space, you might need to reach out to them to see if they can handle the precise job you want done.

  • Offers both residential and commercial designs
  • Has a broad range of design styles
  • Offers materials and furnishings that can go with the project

  • Limited experience in commercial designs

Customer Reviews

Good customer service – Sid

“Just wanted to say how much of a pleasure it was working with you both. I don’t know how I could have done it without you two! You were definitely the best part of the whole process, from design, to smoothing over any of the problems that arose during the build, to the final furnishings. I can’t tell you how many trades, friends, and visitors have complimented on the unique and beautiful design of the home, given the space (and I always note to tell them Fenwick designs, Lynn and Alex are largely responsible). I am truly enjoying my home.”

Attentive to their customers for their desires – Carrie H.

“It was a pleasure working with Lynn Fenwick and the whole team at Fenwick & Co Interior Design. We were undergoing a complete home renovation, and Lynn was very attentive and really understood what would work with our space, lifestyle, and budget. The design process was a pleasure, as Lynn was always available and happy to assist with whatever she could. Fenwick Interior design completely transformed our 1970’s home into a contemporary masterpiece, whose design is as beautiful as it is functional. We could not be happier.”

Keen towards details – Grant H.

“I would like to thank you for all your assistance with my recent renovation. Your design expertise from concept to completion is greatly appreciated. I am very happy with my new basement (renovations) and enjoying all the details in design that you suggested. Thank you!”

We found that S3 is a Winnipeg-based design firm that is perfect for beginners or first-timers in the field. They have a smart and intuitive web design that you can easily navigate to browse their portfolio and other pertinent information.

A plus we found for S3 is that they offer a special service so you are able to DIY your preferred design with the assistance of the team. You can customize and experiment based on your preference and what furniture and materials the firm recommends.

Another thing worth noting is their drive to produce smart and sustainable designs.

Smart, in a way that the interior seamlessly flows with the outdoor environment. Sustainable, with the use of durable materials to make the interior last for a lifetime worth of memories.

Sentimentality aside, we like that this approach is a real investment in well-being and comfort. For example, if you need a workspace design, they’ll use lighting strategies to brighten the space for increased productivity.

One con we spotted in S3 is that it is limited to the interior design service per se. Unlike other firms that go beyond this (to the actual furnishing and installation of materials), they limit their services to the assessment, discovery, and conception part of the process mainly.

Relative to others in the market, they also have pricer discovery consultation, which is offered by other firms for free.

On the bright side, this consultation is real hard work – expert design insights and budget plus timelines included. You can also simply walk away if you like – after paying $500, of course.

  • Smart and intuitive web design
  • Straight-to-the point services, perfect for beginners
  • Offers an option that you’ll design it yourself with assistance

  • Offers interior design only
  • Expensive discovery consultation

Customer Reviews

Professional and engaged towards their customers – Lori J.

“Carrie was very professional and listened to everything we wanted when we were re-doing our basement. She was instrumental in picking the colours of the design. She brought in interesting design aspects to the basement that allowed a sense of separation in an otherwise long rectangular room. She designed a new bathroom ensuite  for our son’s bedroom and gave great advice on  everything from colours to lighting while allowing us to stay on budget.”

Skilled; attentive to details

“Annie came to our house to consult on colors, textures, flooring, curtains, light fixtures and cupboard handles.  It only took us 1 hour to get through everything and the end result was fantastic.  She understood our style and helped, guided us to the right combinations.  Thanks to Annie our kitchen/dining/living room renovation is excellent.”

180 Design is a Mitchell-based interior design firm that has a robust portfolio easily accessible on their site. Right there, you can already see the range of projects they’ve worked on over the years and even relevant blog articles to supplement your research.

One of the major things that we liked about them is that they help you visualize your design. Using  2D & 3D AutoCAD, you’ll get a better grasp of the final outcome of your design.

If you hate initial financial obligations like us, you’ll also like their free discovery call. So without paying a single penny, you can ask for expert advice and questions about your interior needs.

Apart from general interior design, we also like their color consult services. With color boards, you can see what colors compliment which so you can experiment with a palette that works for you.

By the way, if you’re actually looking for a redesign to sell your property, they do staging services too. Bonus point because they also work with real estate agents to sell your place faster.

The only real downside we could see to them is that they’re based in Mitchell, Manitoba, which may be an issue if you wish to have your team accessible in person most of the time, at least.

Professional and experience – Pammy

“We contacted Lisa for a color, lighting and walk-in closet consultation. Right from our initial phone consultation Lisa listened to our needs and gained our trust. She was able to provide us with a style we couldn’t have achieved on our own. She was friendly, open, insightful and professional. Her clarity and vision for our decorating and home improvement needs exceeded our expectations! We are grateful for her guidance and knowledge and look forward to continually using her services as we go forward with future projects. We highly recommend using 180 Design by Lisa.”

Efficient and puts it in the extra effort – Jen P.

“A whole new vibe! Working with Lisa has been an awesome experience.  She has worked quickly and put together 4 design options to refresh my 70’s kitchen, living / dining room.  She nailed my love of the colour blue in her Scandinavian style for this project.  She did her research in scandi and it all came to life with her 3D design technology. Before and after photos to follow as the project progresses.”

Good attention to detail – Vienna G.

“If I could, I would give Lisa more than 5 stars! Excellent designer! She helped pick color combinations for my home and she paid so much attention to every detail in my home to make sure the right colors were chosen for my kitchen cabinets, walls, doors and trim! Thank you so much Lisa!”
