The 5 Best Pea Gravel Suppliers in Winnipeg

Pea gravel is an inexpensive, attractive, versatile, and very practical inclusion in any home. It adds a distinct tranquil look to any garden and can serve as a focal point that directs you to paths and areas you’d like to emphasize in your yard.

Due to its perks, it’s a very popular addition to any home. So if you’re one of those homeowners who want to add this element to your landscaping plans but don’t know where to start, then look no further than this list of the best pea gravel suppliers in Winnipeg.

To help you with your hunt for the perfect pea gravel supplier, we’ll be covering some pertinent information about pea gravel and landscaping.

This guide will give you details on the cost of pea gravel, the various other services that these suppliers can provide and some frequently asked questions you will encounter in your search for a pea gravel supplier.

How much is pea gravel in Winnipeg?

The price of pea gravel varies depending on several factors. On average, however, the retail price of pea gravel is around $45, with cheaper varieties going as low as $15 per yard and more expensive types going up as much as $75 a yard.

Typically, more colourful stacks of pea gravel are more expensive than monochromatic ones since these are more ornamental and attractive.

The Lacoste Garden Centre in Winnipeg is a family-owned gardening centre that has served Winnipeg for over 75 years. They own a state-of-the-art greenhouse facility managed by gardening and landscaping experts and professionals who are knowledgeable about various plants, soils, and rock varieties.

Compared to some of the stores listed here, Lacoste Garden Centre boasts a huge selection of local and exotic plants, soils, and stones including river rocks such as pea gravel, and they even offer landscaping services. As such, they can be considered a one-stop-shop for all of your gardening and landscaping needs.

They have a pretty easy online portal to navigate with a collection of useful information consumers need for gardening and landscaping. And they also include a helpful blog filled with garden care and landscaping tips and strategies.

Lacoste also indicates the price of all their products in the catalogue, and they are amazingly detailed. Compared to a lot of other stores, their prices are higher, with pea gravel priced at $60 per yard, much to the dismay of its clients.

It’s quite a popular store. As such, they are frequented by a large number of customers.

This, however, has negatively affected its ability to attend to the needs of all its clients, and some customers have expressed their disappointment for being ignored by the store’s staff.

Customer Reviews

Oustanding customer service

We were promptly greeted by staff when we entered their store. And asked if they can help us find anything. We had a list and they proceeded to walk us to each item we wanted. It was great service. No pressure at all. We reached a point when we needed to deliberate so were left to do that on our own.  We had just come from another garden centre on the same street where we were ignored. Not even a hello. So the awesome treatment here was so much more appreciated. – Jeff Trudy Fidyk

Friendly, experienced professional staff

Locally owned. Often put on events for children. Christmas setup is one of the best in the city. Used their landscaping services as well. Competitive pricing and excellent results. I recommend any chance I get. Thank you, Lacoste. – Kyle Brain

Reimer soils has been a reliable partner for landscaping, soil, and stone needs in Manitoba for over 40 years. They specialize in dirt, soils, mulch, fertilizers, sand aggregates, ornamental stones, lawn ornaments, and patio blocks.

They have a very straightforward website with a list of products, services, and basic information. As such, it’s very user-friendly even for those unadept in using technology or the Internet.

Reimer Soils have had the privilege of contributing to a large variety of projects. They cater to individual homeowners, landscapers, and even large contractors for major developments and projects.

Though they have a straightforward site, they don’t immediately indicate the prices of their items. Clients need to coordinate with their customer service representative for pricing and quotations.

On average, customers have paid around $45 a yard for their gravel, which is within the industry average in Winnipeg. Unfortunately, they have been criticized for quality inconsistencies with their products, particularly the grade of their soils.

They act primarily as a supplier of landscaping resources, and they don’t offer landscaping services for their clients. Reimer has also garnered a reputation for being a reliable supplier that offers quick and straightforward transactions to its clients.

  • Selection good for homeowners, landscapers, and contractors
  • Wide range of soils, rocks, gravel and mulch
  • Efficient staff to transact with

  • Does not offer landscaping services
  • Inconsistent product quality
  • Lacks other landscaping products and services such as plants and lawn maintenance

Customer Reviews

A breeze to deal with

First of all, I found their website well-designed and easy to navigate. It was especially helpful in clearly explaining the specific applications of their products. We were able to identify the proper products for our project and the coverage calculator was bang on. We were able to get next-day delivery, even for our small project, and the driver called just before he left the yard with an approximate ETA which I appreciated. Will be using them again for any landscaping needs. – K M.

A go-to place for all things yardwork

One of the two “Go-To” places we use for any of our yard projects. Whether you need several cubic yards of material or a couple of cubic feet Reimer Soils most likely will have it.  They carry various sands, gravel crushed stone, and several different soil mixtures.  Very convenient location on Lagimodiere Boulevard, between Dugald Road and Regent Avenue West, especially if you live on the east side of the city. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. – Guy Wilde

Customer Reviews

Great service and selection

Very good customer service and knowledgeable staff. My new place to get my Barkman products from. Some stores will require you to special order pallets of stone, this place can help you with an under a pallet on some products that are in stock. They loaded my 12 patio stones which are 60 pounds each into my SUV vehicle. This place was well worth my drive from Grand Beach. – Grand Beach Rentals

One of my favourite garden centers

My favorite garden center in the city by FAR. Ray is one of a kind fantastic owner, and their attentive staff has helped me many times. Willing to go above and beyond, I appreciate their willingness and expertise to work with me on different projects over the last decade. – Will Bermann

Gauthier Soils Ltd. has been in the business of providing soil, rocks, gravel, and sand for over 50 years. Unlike some of the other stores here, Gauthier houses their own manufacturing facility where they collect, crush, and quarry rocks, soil, and minerals.

They specialize mainly in rocks, soil, and gravel. As such, they do not carry other landscaping and gardening items such as plants, ornaments, and other gardening essentials.

Owning the manufacturing process allows them to offer their products at competitive prices and gives them the privilege of having the widest selection of gravel in the market. Unsurprisingly, they’re commended for their competitive prices, although some have also complained that their prices still vary depending on their stocks.

Their website is straightforward with a user-friendly interface. Unfortunately, they don’t post the prices of their products nor do they have much useful information for homeowners and landscapers about their items and services.

Gauthier Soils has also been commended for their efficient and effective delivery service. Their clients reported that they offer very cheap delivery options and even have the capacity to deliver multiple types of rocks and minerals in a single truck—leading to savings.

Called first thing in the am and they were there within a couple of hours. The driver worked extra hard to deliver into our tight back lane which saved us days of wheelbarrowing 1/4 down. Everyone was super polite and helpful. – Murad Zaman

2nd time I have used them in the last 8 months, speedy delivery ( less than an hour ) both times. The driver dropped the load right where I wanted it. Cash is king if it saves me a few bucks. They may seem abrupt on the phone but I found them right to the point. – Scott Fardoe

Customer Reviews

Impressive service

Great, courteous service. Rockstone was delivered exactly where I wanted it on the driveway without me speaking to the driver, and it was right in the middle of the four-hour delivery window. I was also impressed that the driver waited some time while a mother and young daughter cycled by on the other side of the road before he left the driveway. Good job. – John Kiddell

A great buying experience

From quote to delivery, everyone was nice and so easy to deal with. Price was reasonable, turn around time for delivery was super quick, and the quality of the play sand was even better than expected. The driver did his best to accommodate our request and waved/honked at my toddler as he left, which made his day! Great experience – would recommend it. – Jannette Wallace
