These 6 Plant Shops in Winnipeg Have Everything You Need

These 6 Plant Shops in Winnipeg Have Everything You Need

Owning plants takes a lot of care, equipment, and knowledge. We love plant shops because they’re one-stop places for everything our gardens need.

Out of all the shops in Winnipeg, there are a few that stand out because of either stellar collections or amazing staff. These 6 Winnipeg plant shops will unleash the true potential of your little home ecosystem!

    1. Ron Paul Garden Centre

    Ron Paul Garden Centre

The Ron Paul Garden Centre is a family-run plant shop with some of the healthiest plants in Winnipeg. Veggies, succulents, flowers, and all the pots and tools you’ll need can be found here.

What we love Ron Paul’s Garden for though, is the staff’s advice. You can get advice on your garden’s design, how to position certain plants together, landscape plans, and estimates on what materials your garden will need!

This shop also hosts community gatherings, which is the perfect opportunity to learn from seasoned gardeners.

The prices are great here too, especially considering the state the plants and equipment are in. Remember to carefully inspect the pots though, since there will always be a few badly grown ones lying around.

    2. Sage Garden Greenhouses

    Sage Garden Greenhouses

Sage Garden Greenhouses specializes in teaching its customers about all-organic plant-growing methods. All the equipment, fertilizers, and pest control items are 100% natural and non-toxic.

You can see how effective Sage’s approach to plants is by looking at how plump and healthy its plants are. Whether you’re buying or just browsing, you can freely approach any of the staff and they’ll gladly give you tips for your own garden.

While most of the stuff here like the fertilizers is top-notch and always available, the equipment can sometimes fall short. We’ve had to come here twice because they ran out of trowels!

    Sumka Brothers Greenhouses

Sumka Brothers Greenhouses in Transcona has been around since 1977, and has a loyal customer base for a reason! Despite being a huge greenhouse, every single plant here is high-quality and guaranteed to be healthy.

The fertilizers and pesticides are sourced from the best, and will surely make your garden look greener after a few weeks. Sumka also offers the widest selection of plants in Winnipeg, so pick to your heart’s content!

The best part though, is that for all this quality, the prices remain very competitive. The staff are also incredibly friendly and are veteran gardeners themselves, so don’t be afraid to take advantage of their wealth of knowledge!

      4. Home Depot Garden Center

      Home Depot Garden Center

The Home Depot Garden Center sells equipment first and plants second, though the plants can be a hit or miss.

While most of the plants sold here are as good as any, there are some high-maintenance ones you may want to watch out for. Just ask the staff about which one’s which and you’ll be fine!

The plants aren’t what we come here for though—it’s the sturdy tools. The pots, trowels, hydroponics, and everything else are all second to none.

The prices are fair for the quality too, and you’ll be getting more than you pay for with each item. The fertilizers and pesticides are a mixed bag of good and bad though, so make sure to read carefully to avoid bathing your greens in chemicals.

          Kanahda Garden

Kahnada has been a local staple for 25 years because of its wide variety of plants. Vegetables, succulents, flowers, herbs, orchids, you name it!

There are limited equipment and supplies here, but the landscape products are endless. Just talk to the staff and they’ll recommend which decorative rocks, sand, gravel, and soil would be best for your garden.

Kahnada also sometimes hosts gardening classes where you get your own small potted plant to take care of. It’s a great way to get into the lifestyle or even network with the gardening community!

We found some rare plants through the people we met here, and we’re sure we’ll continue to find more!
