Support African Cinema in Winnipeg’s Movie Festival from Sept 15 to 21, 2025
Immerse yourself in Black cinema right here in Winnipeg!
From September 15 to 21, the 2025 African Movie Festival returns with thought-provoking documentaries, powerful dramas, and experimental films, showcasing different stories spanning the entire continent and diaspora.
Our favorite thing about the festival is that a lot of the activities are free, including the film screenings. However, they are ticketed, so you still have to secure a spot to attend.
The documentaries Mother City, Father’s Day, and Our Land Our Freedom, as well as the short AYETAN: Twilight of Life, will be available to the public for free.

Aside from the movie screenings, we’re looking forward to the African Market, which will be on the 19th and 20th. Every year, they have delicious treats, artisanal goods, and other cultural crafts.
The 2025 African Movie Festival will be held at the Winnipeg Art Gallery-Quamajuq. For the full schedule, visit am-fm.ca.
