The 5 Best Assisted Living Facilities in Winnipeg That Families Trust the Most

Experience and Accreditation - We selected facilities with proven track records and proper licensing, ensuring residents receive professional, dependable care in a safe environment.

Quality of Care - We focused on communities that provide personalized support, from daily living assistance to medical supervision, all delivered with compassion and respect.

Amenities and Lifestyle - We highlighted facilities offering enriching activities, comfortable accommodations, and inviting spaces that help residents feel truly at home.

Resident and Family Feedback - We gave priority to places with consistently positive testimonials, where both residents and their families praised the attentive staff and welcoming atmosphere.

Getting older is inevitable, but growing old gracefully is a choice. I used to shrug that off as one of those comforting lines people say to make aging sound poetic.

That perspective shifted when I helped a family friend settle into an assisted living community here in Winnipeg.

It dawned on me that thriving in later years isn’t about chasing youth; it’s about finding a home that lets you live fully.

Watching her flourish, joining group activities, forming new friends, and finally letting others handle the things that once weighed her down taught me something valuable.

The right environment doesn’t limit independence; it restores a sense of ease. And here in our city, some facilities do exactly that.

How much does assisted living cost in Winnipeg?

Assisted living in Winnipeg typically costs between $2,300 and $4,000 CAD per month, depending on the level of care, suit size, and amenities included.
If medical attention or memory support is needed, expenses can increase to $5,000 to $6,000 CAD monthly.
Some communities offer tiered pricing or à la carte services, with personal care packages and meal plans available for an additional cost.

It has given our family tremendous peace of mind to know they are and will be well taken care of.

“My parents moved in to River Ridge 1 in Feb 2023. It was an adjustment of course, but it has been quite positive. Lots of programs to choose from. Outings as well. A driver for appointments and errands. It’s very social and I believe this to be a huge asset to anyone, especially as we age. The staff members are very caring and willing to listen to all concerns and ideas. It has given our family tremendous peace of mind to know they are and will be well taken care of.”

River Ridge Retirement Residence has been a blessing… not only for my mother-in-law, but for the entire family.

“River Ridge Retirement Residence has been a blessing . . . not only for my Mother-in-Law, but for the entire family. My wife and I had visited on several occasions since the facility was built to get a feel for how my wife’s parents could adapt to this environment when the time came for them to sell their home. On every occasion we were very impressed with the facility and the caring personnel we encountered. Indeed the faces on the residents themselves told the story of the excellent care they were receiving.

With the passing of my Father-in-Law, we made an appointment for my Mother-in-Law to visit. What she experienced on that first visit was overwhelming. However, in large part due to the friendly and considerate demeanor of Renee Kelly, Lifestyle Director, she advised the family that she was ready to make the move.

The physical move was co-ordinated by Renee with Leapfrog Moving. The move was effortless on our part. Mom’s suite was professionally set up when she was called to enter for the first time, causing Mom to be very emotional. It had the effect of making her feel fully at home in her new residence.

Mom has met many new friends, takes part in several activities, and benefits from frequent family visits to this accessible facility. Her attitude is positive whenever we contact her. It is clear that the entire family’s stress level has decreased knowing that Mom is in a safe place.

The entire family highly recommends River Ridge.”

They treat their residents like their own family and that was very apparent with mom.

“My mother resided at Seine River Retirement Residence from 2016 to 2020.  She was very happy living there and loved her suite, the staff and the beautiful dining experience.

As my mom was in beginning stages of dementia, she did visit the front desk often with requests of all  sorts, which were always taken care of.  The staff had time for queries and were always kind and helpful.  The staff also  helped me by listening to my concerns regarding my mom and never made me feel awkward.

I would honestly recommend Seine River Retirement for your loved ones.”

We could not be more pleased with the entire experience. I wholeheartedly recommend Shaftesbury to any family seeking a special place for their loved ones.

This place is amazing.

“This place is amazing. The suites are bright and spacious and the staff are great. They all work hard and care about the residents.

The Executive Director told me that she would treat my Mom the way she would want her own Mom to be treated.  She absolutely does treat my Mom with genuine care and concern.

My Mom is always saying that the entire staff is great and hard working.

The recreation person makes sure that my Mom gets involved in exercise class, outings and whatever else is happening at Brightwater.

They even have a doctors office right in the building which has been a great help.

My Mom is safe, comfortable and happy which makes me happy.

I would completely recommend Brightwater Senior Living to anyone.”
