What to Do at Beaudry Provincial Park? A Perfect Day Trip for Nature Lovers

In Winnipeg, winter isn’t just a season—it’s a lifestyle. For my family, that meant packing up the car every weekend and heading to Beaudry Provincial Park for cross-country skiing.

My fondest childhood memories here are of conquering my first steep hill, speeding down slopes, and sharing hot cocoa around a crackling campfire. But beyond the thrill, it was the sense of togetherness that kept me coming back year after year.

And as I grew older, my love for this place only deepened. What began as a family tradition turned into epic adventures with friends, exploring every inch of the park from dawn until dusk.

So if you ever crave an escape where giggles echo through the trees and snow sparkles like diamonds, go to Beaudry Provincial Park. Who knows, this place might be your comforter in the midst of chaos.

Beaudry Provincial Park is a beautiful 953-hectare park nestled along the Assiniboine River, just west of Headingley.

This place is all about protecting and restoring the remnants of tall grass prairie, and there’s this lush riverbottom forest that thrives near the river.

Hiking

At Beaudry Provincial Park, you’ve got plenty of great options, especially if you love hiking. This place is a gem for all kinds of hikers, from seasoned pros to those who just want a relaxing walk.

For starters, you have to check out the Wild Grape Trail and the Elm Trail. These are my go-to trails, and they’re pretty popular around here.

Both of them wind along the Assiniboine River, giving you some breathtaking views of the water and the lush greenery.

As you might guess from the names, the Wild Grape Trail has spots where wild grape vines spread across the ground, and the Elm Trail is lined with these beautiful, towering elm trees.

Cross-Country Skiing

When the snow falls, the park turns into this magical winter wonderland.

They’ve got groomed trails that are just perfect for both classic and skate skiing, so you can really glide through the snow-covered landscape.

What’s awesome is that there’s something for everyone. If you’re just starting out or if you’ve been skiing for years, you’ll find trails that match your skill level.

And if you’re up for a bit of an adventure, they’ve also got some ungroomed trails. These are a bit more challenging and give you that raw, natural skiing experience.

Canoeing and Kayaking

Beaudry also offers a serene spot to paddle! The Assiniboine River flowing through the park provides a peaceful setting for a canoe or kayak adventure.

It has a convenient boat launch, so getting your gear into the water is a breeze.

Once you’re there, you can paddle either upstream or downstream. Both directions offer beautiful riverside views and a sense of tranquility that’s hard to beat.

Just a quick heads-up: keep an eye on the water flow, especially if you’re new to paddling. The current can vary, so it’s good to stay aware.

But all in all, it’s a great way to enjoy nature and get a bit of exercise too!

Wildlife Watching

Beaudry Provincial Park is like a haven for wildlife! Seriously, if you’ve got a bit of patience and a keen eye, you’ll be spotting all sorts of critters during your visit.

Keep those peepers peeled, especially for their famous white-tailed deer. They love to hang out in the open spaces, just munching away on grass like they own the place.

Now, when it comes to the forested parts, it’s all about the owls and foxes. If you listen closely, you might just hear their hoots and bark echoing through the trees.

It’s like an out-of-nature documentary!

And let’s not forget the beavers. Those busy little engineers leave their mark with chewed-up tree trunks and those unmistakable dams along the riverbank.

With over 200 different bird species hanging around, Beaudry is a paradise for all the bird lovers out there.

Here’s the deal: make sure you pack those binoculars because you’re in for a show. The park’s got all sorts of habitats that attract different kinds of birds.

You might catch colorful songbirds chirping away in the trees, majestic birds of prey soaring high above, or even some cool waterfowl chilling by the river.
