I’m the self-proclaimed cool auntie in our friend group who treats gift-giving as a sport. I don’t have kids of my own, so I like to shower their babies with the cutest outfits and toys for birthdays, Christmases, and other holidays.
Over the years, I’ve grown very familiar with the different baby stores in Winnipeg. I know them like the back of my hand—and dare I say, probably even better than some parents.
Here, we listed all our faves so you can decide where you want to shop.
1. Once Upon a Child (East)

Once Upon a Child is a one-stop shop for the most affordable baby essentials. They sell brand new and gently used clothing, shoes, toys, and accessories.
When we first came here, we didn’t expect to spend so much time digging through bins full of apparel. They have so much stuff that you literally need to go over piles of items to find what you’re looking for.
We still think it’s worth a visit, especially if you want to save money. Apart from budget-friendly secondhand items, they offer frequent discounts and clearance sales that can cut costs up to 50%.
The excellent customer service is a big reason why shoppers keep coming back. They make parents-to-be, godparents, and other cool aunties feel way more confident in their choices.

If you’re looking for cute outfits for your little one, Carter’s OshKosh is a must-visit. They have onesies, bodysuits, pullovers, and joggers that fit babies from 0 to 24 months.
All of the clothes are made with soft, breathable fabrics. They’re also free from harmful chemicals, making them comfortable and gentle on a baby’s delicate skin.
We were pretty impressed with how clean and well-organized the space was. When you’re browsing, you won’t have to face an overwhelming amount of options, so you can just pop in and out of the store in no time.
However, customer service is hit or miss. Some employees are very accommodating, while others feel so inconvenienced when we made inquiries. And when we asked other patrons about their experience, they shared the same sentiments.

Babies “R” Us is the lesser-known sister company of Toys “R” Us, specifically catering to the needs of the smallest members of the family. They’ve got swaddles, onesies, and diapers, among others.
You’ll even find baby gear here. From strollers and car seats to cribs, they have a wide range of options that fit your family’s needs and budget.
What we like most is the quality of the items. They hold up pretty well and last a long time, giving you great value for your money.
During our visits, the staff members were always friendly and helpful. But some of the customers we talked to shared that they had unpleasant experiences, particularly with the younger employees. They would often just chat amongst themselves instead of assisting shoppers.

Since 1969, The Children’s Place has dressed kids in the most stylish and cuddle-worthy outfits for all seasons. Their apparel comes in a range of colors, prints, and trendy designs, crafted with premium materials that are safe for babies.
Our favorite thing about this store is their clearance sales, which can reach up to 70% off on all your purchases. Both branches have great deals and promos, so you won’t have to worry about missing out.
Out of the two locations, the one in St. Vital Center is the crowd favorite. Just like us, most of the patrons we interviewed prefer shopping there because of the stocked shelves and excellent customer service.
The branch on Kildonan Place is a bit smaller—not stroller-friendly at all. You can’t comfortably browse the shelves with a little one in tow.

5. Tiny & Treasured Clothing Company

Tiny & Treasured is a homegrown company, selling newborn essentials and sustainable baby clothing, such as swaddle blankets, two-piece sets, knotted gowns, and hats.
Made with bamboo fabric, the items are super soft, hypoallergenic, and breathable. The material is stretchable as well, giving the baby enough room to wiggle in.
The personalized hats and bows, which you won’t even find at big-box retailers, are also a favorite among parents.
Aside from the products, customer service is pretty impressive here. Even the owner goes above and beyond to answer inquiries and assist shoppers, so everyone leaves happy.
The range of options isn’t vast—as you can expect from a small company. Some items tend to sell out quickly as well, especially the cutest seasonal drops.

Convenient for all those endless diaper changes
Loved these cosies for my first and definitely wanted to get some of the new colors for my second-born. Lexa was amazing and delivered all well in advance of my due date. The knotted gowns were amazing for the first 3-4 months, super soft, and so convenient for all those endless diaper changes but I also got the two-piece set for a little later once he outgrows the knotted gowns!
