Winnipeg’s UPS Store is a go-to place for businesses, government groups, and private individuals that need to shred paperwork on a regular basis owing to its good reputation and secure processes.

With licensed and insured employees, the company does offer some reassurance as to your papers’ privacy. It even allows you to modify their paper shredding services to include your requirements to achieve the highest possible security, which we like.

Now, the UPS Store has always been a one-stop shop for all business needs, but we see this as a drawback that may affect the security of its shredding services.

While the company takes pride in ensuring the privacy and protection of your papers, their high-volume store also risks data leakage. Many people come in and out on a daily basis, which calls for stricter safety measures from UPS management.

If you’re considering availing of The UPS Store’s secure paper shredding service, make sure to optimize your order and include more stringent requirements to guarantee a higher level of security.

Another thing that we recommend is to go to their store and speak to a point person about their secure shredding services. From our experience, it can be difficult to get a hold of them through their landline and it’s hard to get a clear and reliable answer from their call centre staff.

Pros

  • Licensed and insured
  • Reliable company reputation
  • Modifiable paper shredding services

Cons

  • Needs more stringent security measures
  • Difficult to reach via landline

Dmitriy & Anna are fantastic people to work with and they run a stellar business at this store. I have been a customer for two years now, and every experience I have had working with them during this time has been extremely positive. They are always personable and professional and on many occasions have gone the extra mile to meet my requests which I greatly appreciate. – Micheal Riglin

Polite and accommodating staff

The owner himself helped me with my order and asked if I could leave a feedback. I can say: really good service, polite staff and we got free coffee and some cookies while waiting in line! Thank you very much! – Alexis Hoppe

RecordXpress is a company helping businesses manage their documents and sensitive data through paper shredding services, documents storage, and more.

Its secure document shredding service is compliant with Canadian laws, as evidenced by its stringent security precautions. From ordering a destruction schedule to confirming that the documents have been destroyed, measures are in place to guarantee confidentiality.

We think RecordXpress’s security precautions are among the best in the business, with its policies of requiring a password and signature authentication, providing a destruction review list to its clients, and conducting criminal background checks on its employees.

With all of these in place, we are pretty confident that our documents are safe… but we did notice one part of the process that made us a bit uncomfortable.

To be precise, shredding projects are done in the company’s Alberta warehouse, which raises concerns about the security of transport from Winnipeg to Alberta.

If, like us, you have some qualms about the transport security, you can opt to witness the shredding process yourself by arranging your visit with the company’s representatives.

It also makes us feel better and more confident to be provided with a certificate of destruction after the shredding process, which confirms that the documents have been destroyed.

Pros

  • High-level security measures
  • Provides a certificate of destruction
  • Employees are trustworthy and background checked

Cons

  • Documents are transported from Winnipeg to Alberta for shredding
  • Expensive prices

Shred Nations offers a vast range of paper shredding services in Winnipeg and beyond. It’s unlike your regular company that picks up documents for destruction and takes them to a shredding facility.

With Shred Nations, you have a myriad of options, whether off-site shredding or mobile shredding. The company even has a proprietary Ship ‘N’ Shred service where you can send off your documents to the shredding facility via courier, which we appreciate.

But, of course, Ship ‘N’ Shred won’t be suitable for highly classified documents as the company engages third-party couriers to pick up and deliver your papers. There’s always the risk of loss in this type of service.

The more premium and favourable option is the mobile shredding service where a shredding truck visits your location and you can witness your documents being shredded yourself!

We love that it offers so much convenience and confidence that your documents are being destroyed right before your eyes.

But while we appreciate the company’s regular off-site shredding, we do have a problem with how they go about it. See, Shred Nations doesn’t actually have its own shredding facility and brings your documents to other paper shredding facilities in Winnipeg.

That means there suddenly are so many parties involved in what is supposed to be a confidential and high-security transaction. Because of that, we don’t recommend their off-site shredding service.

Pros

  • Offers a variety of paper shredding services
  • Mobile shredding that comes to you
  • Affordable and efficient

Cons

  • Some services are risky in terms of security
  • Does not have its own facility

Customer Reviews

Confident and secure mobile shredding

Had old statements, check books, paid bills, etc. that no longer needed to be stored. Others want you to leave your stuff for later shredding – not comfortable with that. They came to our home, courteous and helpful, and we dumped that material in a bin they provide. Then the bin was taken to their truck, parked in front of our home, and I watched as it was shredded. Very confident and securely done. Terrific way to handle this matter.“ – Wayne

Professional service

Shred Nations is perhaps one of the most professional and responsive shredding companies we have had the pleasure of working with. They are always there to help, always arrive on time, and do the job in a timely and efficient manner. 10/10“ – Ken

Shred-it is a document shredding service provider in Winnipeg that’s a member of a big group of companies providing business solutions.

We like that its mother company, Stericycle, created a new leg that specializes particularly in paper shredding, guaranteeing a more targeted service for customers.

Shred-it has quite the selection of services, from scheduled and one-time shredding to speciality shredding. Our favourite is their regularly-scheduled shredding service, which is perfect for companies that need to destroy sensitive paperwork frequently.

The one-time service is worthy of a look as well, with service options that guarantee a 2-day or 5-day turnaround time. But if you foresee that you’ll be needing their shredding services often, you’ll save more with a regularly-scheduled service.

When it comes to security, we barely have any complaints. Shred-it facilities are NAID AAA certified and its employees are made up of certified security representatives.

Although their services are very comprehensive, they’re rather difficult to avail of or inquire about because of their terrible customer service.

From our experience, their phone representatives have a habit of leaving customers on hold for too long, which of course, makes us rather uninterested in moving forward.

It would help the company to improve their ability to respond to calls and address customer concerns or inquiries more efficiently. But it seems like they have focused more on the quality of their offers than the quality of their customer service.

Pros

  • Offers various paper shredding service options
  • NAID AAA security certified facilities and employees
  • Fast turnaround time

Cons

  • Customer service representatives can be more responsive and helpful
  • Pricy shredding services

Along with its other business information management offerings, Access provides secure paper shredding services in Winnipeg and other surrounding metros.

It has multiple on-site shredding options, such as schedule rotation of shredders or one-time purge and destruction services, so you can find one that suits your business needs.

As far as we noticed, Access does not have any pickup or shipping options, which is probably for the best. With a specific and limited shredding process, it’s able to preserve the security of its chain of custody.

Speaking of security, that’s one less thing that you have to worry about when working with Access. Its process is riddled with precautionary measures to ensure that your sensitive data and information are handled with the highest level of security.

Your documents are given a unique identifier so that you know exactly what happens to them and track where they are at any given time.

We do wish, however, that the company had actual facilities to conduct its shredding process. But as of the moment, all it offers are shred bins and executive consoles for on-site shredding.

Shred bins can only hold 225 pounds of paper while consoles have a 100-pound capacity. This would require more frequent destruction orders, which might put a hole in your pocket in the long run.

Pros

  • Secure chain of custody
  • Multiple on-site shredding options

Cons

  • No shredding facility
  • No pickup or shipping options
  • Can get costly in the long run
