The 5 Best Lighting Stores in Winnipeg That Actually Impressed Us
When I started living alone, one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do was pick the right light fixtures for my home. What I thought would be a quick trip to the store ended up as a crash course on lighting, particularly for ambient, accent, and decorative purposes.
Thankfully, the staff was happy to answer the questions of a young and very confused homeowner. More importantly, they were kind enough to walk me through the overwhelming choices in front of me.
Eventually, I did manage to pick out the right lights for my home. If it wasn’t for the helpful staff, I would’ve regretted my choices.

In Winnipeg’s retail hub, you’ll find one of our go-to stores for stylish yet affordable light fixtures—Ikea. The Swedish home furnishing company has lights for every room in your home, from table lamps to chandeliers.
The selection is so huge that it can get a little overwhelming. Luckily, the staff is helpful and capable of guiding you through the labyrinth of options.
Whenever you have questions – whether about bulbs, warranties, or installation – they will explain everything clearly. That extra bit of guidance is important, especially if you aren’t very handy, just like me.
Since Ikea in Canada doesn’t offer installation services, you either have to consider it as an extra expense or pick up a new skill. On the bright side, the warranties and return policies are solid, providing peace of mind in case of defects.

Rona+ is located right in central Winnipeg. They stay open until 9 PM on weekdays, which gives you enough time to run your lighting errands after clocking out of work.
We learned that they’ve got more stylish, affordable options than their flagship brand, Rona. They have wall lights, sconces, vanities, and other general lighting types.
At times, finding a staff member in this huge space is tricky. But when you do get a hold of them, they’re friendly and helpful—even during the post-sale process.
Since they’re a big-box retailer, we were expecting their return policy to cover a full year. But they only allow returns within 90 days. They also have a standard limited warranty, which guarantees repair or replacement for defective items.

Robinson Lighting Center is a family-owned store on Stegall Drive. They have spacious showrooms, which have an impressive selection of lights, ranging from classic brass pendants to smart LED fixtures.
Since they’re a lighting specialty store, the staff here can offer a bit more expertise—not just when it comes to installation but also design. In an interview, some patrons shared that they received great insights and tips, particularly about layering lights in their space.
On the other hand, the post-sale follow-ups can be a little slow. Some shoppers say that it can take a while for the staff to respond to inquiries, which leads to frustration because they only allow returns within 14 days of purchase.
Although their return policies are pretty modest, we gave them bonus points anyway for having solid warranties. All of their light fixtures are covered for 5 years, while all of their light bulbs are covered for 3.

Urban Barn isn’t considered a large retailer, but this Canadian-owned home decor store has been steadily growing. Right here in Winnipeg, we’re lucky to have two locations on Kenaston Boulevard and Regent Avenue.
We love that they have a curated selection of table and floor lamps. Although they lack variety, they make up for it in style, particularly with pieces that double as functional lighting and statement decor.
As you can expect, they come with a hefty price tag, often starting at $100+. But if you’re lucky, you can snag up to 60% off from their website.
While most of their items have standard warranties, the return policy is a bit more modest. You can return items within 30 days from purchase along with the original receipt.
More importantly, their products are well-made, which means you’ll most likely enjoy them for years without needing follow-up services.
