Customer Reviews

Here are some reviews that will tell you more about the services of Brightwater Senior Living.

“This place is absolutely amazing! By far the nicest seniors residence we’ve ever seen. After a tour we were blown away. The facilities and staff are 5 stars. If you’re thinking about it, you must check it out.” – Colette B.

“Amazing group of people. Especially their Nurse Judie, Ekeen and Kim are great compassionate people. During these times too they have all measures in place to ensure their residents are kept safe but provide virtual meetings with families to ensure they are able to connect to them on a regular basis.” – Taz L.

“Wonderful buildings with great amenities are one thing, but it’s the staff of Brightwater that really make the place home. I watched a member of the cleaning staff asking a resident how their birthday was. They spoke as if they’d been neighbours for years! Well done, and keep up the great work.” – Richard B.

River Ridge Retirement Residences offers both independent assisted living and enhanced assisted living. They provide an environment where residents are able to maintain their independence with any additional support that is needed while they age.

We included this one on our list because it is in a great location and has a beautiful view of the Historic Red River in Winnipeg. It is in a quaint residential area near Seven Oaks General Hospital and Wellness Centre, and close to many shops like Walmart, Tim Horton’s and Sobey’s.

We also like that they place a priority on health and wellness for all their residents. There are many daily activities that are available for the seniors to keep themselves active and continuously challenge themselves.

This goes hand in hand with the carefully planned menus that consist of nutritionally balanced meals every day.

“RR2 is an amazing place. My experience with my mother being there is nothing short of amazing.  This place is filled with angels at every level. We brought my Mom from another province to this place about two years ago. The front staff were amazing in putting us to ease about her care. The proof came in the following years.  With her failing health, they helped us transition her from one area to another area of RR2. Best move we ever made. Thanks RR2 for being the angels surrounding her as she lives out her final years.” – Ron F.

“We love River Ridge II! We have family in the building and they love living there. They are always telling us about all the fun they have, great staff, and great food! Thank you River Ridge II for all you do. It puts my mind at ease having my family in such a great place, especially considering everything that is going on with CoVid-19. I have felt so safe having my family there during this time. I recommend this Retirement Residence to everyone!” – Kali K.

Customer Reviews

Take a look at these detailed reviews to learn more about Revera Portsmouth.

“The Portsmouth:  the best decision we made for our precious Mom. Important note: this is an Assisted Living (Retirement) Residence NOT a Revera Personal Care Home – they are 2 different entities.  When Mom needed to leave her rural home and transplant elsewhere it was a bittersweet time. Being in Winnipeg near her two daughters was a bonus but she was leaving friends, a community, and having to “build” a new life at a vulnerable time in her journey. We did due diligence and investigated every option. Suffice to say, we witnessed (and felt) a unique “energy” at The Portsmouth between all staff and residents. It is said that “it starts at the top” and we wish we could clone Jennifer Gray (Exec. Dir.) and her team.  From our first meeting, Mom felt respected, vital, and, surprisingly, calmed. Jennifer’s words and manner embraced mom’s spirit and independence.

Here are some of our family observations about the current admin & staff:

–           compassionate, respectful and honest,

–           devoted to the physical and emotional well-being of the residents,

–           trustworthy,

–           hard-working,

–           consistent and timely administrative communication,

–           resourceful and creative (especially during Covid).

Truly, the staff has a personal relationship with all residents – it’s not for show. It is sincere  and authentic. Simply stated, they really DO CARE.  We (daughters) recall walking down the hall during our first visit and Jennifer bent down to pick up a shred of paper on the carpet. That simple action spoke volumes to us;  the devil is always in the details.  Jennifer does and sees beyond the obvious; particularly critical when they (staff) serve as guardian angels for our loved ones.  This is the “home” mom wishes to spend the remaining part of her journey. Her 2 daughters embrace that wish. We never thought that leaving our lifetime family home and moving into a congregate living home could turn into becoming part of another, and larger, family. We like our “new” family. Thanks to the staff , our mother does, indeed, feel this has become home. Teresa and Michelle Lee and Mom Maria” – Teresa L.

“What a fabulous place for seniors. We were provided a tour courtesy of Anthony (Tony) Woods, their lifestyle coordinator.

We got to see the whole facility and even enjoyed a lunch prepared by their Red Seal Chef. I went with my mother and sister -in – law and Mom loved the place!

The food is amazing ( sneak a cookie from the Bistro if you can ) and all the residents appear happy and well cared for. Wow the list of activities is extensive. They even have an on-site beauty salon that will do your hair and nails at competitive prices so you don’t have to trek out in the cold.

They are in the process of renovating their suites with new carpets, kitchens etc so everything looks great.

While we were on the tour we had the chance to meet a number of little pooches as the Portsmouth is “pet friendly”.

We were also greeted by Maureen, the dining room supervisor who promised to make every special for mom.

If you are looking for an assisted living location with your Mom or Dad, I would recommend that you check this place out.  My sister-in-law even said “Heck, I’d like to move in here” – Wesley H.
