The 8 Best Pho Spots in Winnipeg I Can’t Stop Raving About

A piping hot bowl of pho never fails to lift my spirits whenever I’m feeling under the weather, stressed, or simply cold. It’s soothing, flavorful, and very nutritious too, which is just good for the body and soul.

Luckily, in Winnipeg, there are a number of Vietnamese restaurants, so I’m never too far from a pho-nomenal bowl of soup.

If you, too, need a pick-me-up, this guide is for you. I’ve rounded up the best places to eat pho in Winnipeg.

1. Pho Kim Tuong

Website: https://www.phokimtuong.com/

Location: 856 Ellice Ave

Operating hours:

Mon-Tue and Thu-Fri, 11 AM to 8 PM

Sat-Sun, 12 PM to 8 PM

Phone: +12046618888

Must-have: Rare Beef and Tendon Rice Noodle Soup

Pho Kim Tuong is a family-run restaurant, serving Vietnamese, Thai, and Chinese dishes for dine-in and takeout. They have everything from spring rolls, stir-fried veggies—and of course, pho.

If you love spice, like I do, I recommend the Special Spicy Beef Noodle Soup. You can get the best of the traditional beef broth and satay, which is the spicy peanut sauce often served alongside meat in Southeast Asian cuisine.

Not to worry, they have other non-spicy alternatives. The Rare Beef and Tendon Rice Noodle Soup is another flavorful and hearty bowl you’ll want to dig into.

Best of all, every order comes with a side of fruit.

Pro Tip:

Don’t miss out on their bubble tea!

2. Pho Cuu Long

Website: http://www.phocuulong.ca/

Location: 757 St Mary’s Rd

Operating hours:

Sun, Tue-Fri, 11 AM to 8 PM

Sat, 11 AM to 9 PM

Phone: +12045050400

Must-have: Deluxe Pho

Another small family-owned restaurant you’ll want to visit for a bowl of pho is Pho Cuu Long. They have quite a few options for spicy and non-spicy soup, which includes beef, pork, chicken, and shrimp.

If you’re looking for a hearty meal, get the Deluxe Pho. A bowl comes with a variety of proteins, such as beef balls, flank, tendons, tripe, and thinly sliced rare beef.

You can get it in two sizes: a small and a large. It’s tempting to order the bigger bowl because there’s only a two-dollar difference between them, but it’s quite hefty, so be sure to come here on an empty stomach.

Pro Tip:

They sell party trays with an assortment of dishes like stir-fried meats, noodles, and fried rice. They’re great for small get-togethers or business meetings.

3. Pho Que Huong

Location: 678 Ellice Ave

Operating hours:

Tue-Sun, 11 AM to 8:30 PM

Phone: +12046915105

Must-have: Beef Broth Shrimp Pho

Pho Que Huong is a mom-and-pop shop serving Vietnamese and Chinese bites. They have various soups, but I come here mostly for their pho.

What makes it different from other spots is that they have three sizes for their soup: small, medium, and large. For me, a large bowl of soup is just too hefty but a small isn’t quite enough, so a medium is perfect to satisfy my tummy.

While you can never go wrong with a Rare Beef Pho, they have other options that are just as flavorful and filling, such as the tofu and shrimp variations.

On the busiest days, service might take a while. However, I can guarantee that their pho is definitely worth the wait.

Pro Tip:

Save room for dessert. You can get Black Eyed Bean Rice Pudding, Red Bean Sesame Balls, or Che Ba Mau, which are delicious ways to end your meal.

4. Pho Binh Minh

Location: 819 Sargent Ave

Operating hours:

Mon-Sat, 11 AM to 9 PM

Phone: +12045051505

Must-have: Chicken Pho

Pho Binh Minh is a great place to hit up before going out for late-night drinks because they open until 9 PM. You can also enjoy a sizable bowl of pho with beer at this small establishment.

What draws my friends and me back every time is their fast and friendly service. Of course, their pho is incredible, too.

Most of the time, I go for beef as it’s the most flavorful, but this is one of the few spots where I would get chicken pho because it never disappoints. They do offer the spicy peanut-based sauce, but only for the rare beef pho.

Pro Tip:

Check out their bubble tea menu as they offer quite a number of flavors. They can even make it with fresh fruit.

5. Pho No. 1

Location: 81 Isabel St

Operating hours:

Mon, Wed-Fri, 11 AM to 8 PM

Sat-Sun, 12 PM to 8 PM

Phone: +12049437449

Must-have: Special Chicken Rice Noodle Soup

Pho No. 1 is a convenient option if you live or work downtown. It’s only a short walk from office and apartment buildings.

Compared to other spots I’ve tried, they always serve pho with generous portions of meat and vegetables. Whether you’re dining in or getting takeout, you’ll be served with a hearty bowl of soup.

Other than the pho, I really like their Vietnamese coffee. If you like it strong with a hint of sweetness, you’ll enjoy it, too.

Pro Tip:

They have quite an extensive menu so don’t hesitate to ask the servers for recommendations.

6. TH Dang

Location: 1425 Pembina Hwy

Operating hours:

Mon, Wed-Sat, 11:30 AM to 8 PM

Sun, 12 PM to 8 PM

Phone: +12044155588

Must-have: Spicy Deluxe Beef Rice Noodle Soup

TH Dang serves authentic Vietnamese cuisine in a cozy, unassuming spot along the south end of Winnipeg. They’re connected to the bike lane and have ample car parking space, making it easy to reach if you’re coming from downtown or other neighborhoods.

If you love spicy pho, this spot is for you. The spice is an additional cost which will be anywhere from $1 to $4 depending on the size of the bowl you get, as well as the level of heat—spicy or very spicy.

Here, you can get pho with different proteins. They have tofu, shrimp, chicken, beef balls, rare beef, and tripe.

Pro Tip:

You can order ice cream and other cold milk-based jelly desserts just in case their pho is too spicy for you.

7. Nhu Quynh

Website: https://nhuquynhwinnipeg.com/

Location: 609 Ellice Ave

Operating hours:

Wed-Mon, 11 AM to 9 PM

Phone: +12047861182

Must-have: Medium Rare Beef and Beef Ball Soup

Nhu Quynh is a go-to spot if you want pho on a budget.

Compared to other restaurants on the list, they charge less for a bowl but they don’t skimp on the meat or veggies at all. Since the portions are quite big, you’re most likely going to have leftovers to take home.

Aside from the usual beef slices, they have beef balls, tripe, and egg noodle soups.

The best part about coming here is that it’s still a hidden gem, so you won’t have to compete with huge crowds. You’ll most likely see regulars and nearby residents.

Pro Tip:

Try their fruit shakes, especially if you’re indulging in some spicy pho. They offer a variety of tropical flavors including coconut, durian, jackfruit, pineapple, and more.

8. Pho Hoang

Website: http://phohoang.com/

Location: 794 Sargent Ave

Operating hours:

Sun-Thu, 11 AM to 9 PM

Fri-Sat, 11 AM to 10 PM

Phone: +12044156893

Must-have: Well-done Brisket Noodle Soup

Pho Hoang is an upscale Vietnamese restaurant offering affordable pho and other traditional dishes. Their signature beef bone broth is simmered for 18 hours and then served with noodles, bean sprouts, cilantro, scallions, and your choice of meat.

Each bowl costs only $9.50, but if you want to upgrade it to a larger size, it will only cost an additional $2. What I like about this restaurant is that they offer different cuts of beef, such as the flank, brisket, and tripe.

Just for $2, you can add other proteins like meatballs and rare steak to your bowl for a heartier meal. You can also top it with more veggies to balance everything out.

Pro Tip:

If you want spicy pho, you can choose between mild, medium, and hot. They don’t mess around with their spices so pick carefully.
