As it is located beside The Fort Garry Hotel, one would think that 2 Kelly’s Café would follow the grand design aesthetic of the hotel’s historic structure.
However, we were pleasantly charmed by 2 Kelly’s Café’s homey interiors. Customers who recommended them to us were right – you immediately feel welcome and at home in its warm and cosy ambiance.
Food-wise, we have not met a customer who didn’t have wonderful things to say about the menu. In the spotlight are their Denver Omelette and shredded hash browns, which many first-time and repeat diners swear by.
Even regulars praise the consistency of the food quality, having ordered the same meal at every visit and being equally wowed each time.
Price-wise, we think that they fall in the middle of the spectrum – average and reasonable. For delicious homemade food, we feel that you get good value for your money.
What really makes the visit worth your while is the customer service. We are truly impressed that most, if not all customers, remember having a positive encounter with the owner, Kelly.
It is very rare for a restaurant owner to personally serve customers these days, so we love that Kelly always makes time to stop by tables to greet diners. Regulars say that if you visit frequently enough, she will have your order memorised.
Apart from Kelly, we love that the entire staff will treat you like family, even when you visit for the first time. They offer service with a personal touch, which we think is their edge over competitors.
Pros
- Service with a personal touch
- Warm and inviting ambiance
- Quality breakfasts at reasonable prices
Cons
- No delivery service
- No signage, so it can be challenging to find
Customer Reviews
“What a cool place! My new favorite cafe in Winnipeg. The food is really great, but the best part is the atmosphere. Kelly treats her customers like family, so it’s super fun to eat there, chat with her ( she’s hilarious!) and watch her treat her loyal customers so well. It is really cozy, and very convenient location in Ft Gary place mall right behind Ft Gary hotel. Give it a try, won’t be your last I bet.” – Brad Josephs
“Amazing little cafe to check out at the Fort Garry mall! The owner is incredibly friendly, and the food is great. If that isn’t enough, the atmosphere is very homey and welcoming. A great place to grab breakfast with a friend, or on your own. You’ll feel like you’ve been a customer for your whole life, after the first time.” – Hunter Leforte
“I fly for a major airline and I’m always looking for a good, local place to have breakfast. FOUND IT. Come for the food, stay for the fun. Kelly makes every breakfast an event, not just a meal. It was a 15 minute walk, in -20 degree weather, and still well worth it. I recommend the DENVER OMELETTE” –Cleatus McDonel

Clementine is arguably one of the most popular downtown spots for brekkie, as evidenced by growing queues at the entrance on weekends. While this may discourage some customers to dine in, many stick it out as they know that the wait is worth it.
We love how Clementine stands out amongst its competitors with its simple yet unique menu. This is a breakfast spot that offers fresh, updated takes on the classic first meal of the day.
Customers rave about the Braised Bacon Benedict, Chorizo Verde Tostada (their signature version of Avocado Toast), and yes, even the Fried Potatoes. We like that they offer a great portion size and decent prices for their dishes, considering the elevated breakfast experience they offer.
While the waiting can definitely dampen the excitement of hungry stomachs (wait times have been said to be around 20 minutes to 2 hours!), customers are quick to say that the experience justifies the wait.
Food is served quickly upon ordering and is always fresh, which any breakfast aficionado will appreciate.
We also like its bold, modern interiors, with quirky artwork hanging on its walls setting a fun and friendly atmosphere. We think that younger people with an affinity for anything “hipster” would love this Intsagrammable place!
Location-wise, we think they’re situated in a great area as they’re within walking distance from most downtown hotels. This gives them a guaranteed crowd of both tourists and locals on any given day.
Customers who don’t have the luxury of time to dine in will be glad to know that they can experience Clementine at home. They can order their breakfast online and simply pick them up when they are ready, which people will appreciate given the usual waiting times for dine-in.
Ultimately, it’s the one-of-a-kind flavors, consistent food quality, and modern brand experience that we believe invite people to keep coming back. For us, that makes Clementine one of Winnipeg’s hottest destinations for foodies.
Pros
- Modern and unique menu
- Reasonable prices
- Online ordering for pick-up
- Walking distance to most hotels
Cons
- Long wait times, especially on weekends
- No reservations
Customer Reviews
“One of the best (if not the best) breakfast spots I’ve ever tried. The inside is very clean, has a friendly staff, and has a super nice laid back environment.
If you’re visiting Winnipeg, this would be very high up on my list in terms of restaurants to try. The food is well prepared and the flavours just pops out
Make sure to call in ahead to get on their waiting list though as they do get packed pretty quick. For the times that I’ve visited, I saw people stroll in just to hear that their wait time is around an hour.” –Robert Reyes Ong
“One of the best brunches I’ve ever had, without a doubt. And after being used to Toronto and Ottawa brunch prices, seems like an absolute steal.
The braised bacon alone is worth coming back on a daily basis if I lived nearby. The fried chicken was good and the potatoes were amazing. I will for sure be looking here every time I visit Winnipeg.” –Zack Babins
“Wow!, is the first reaction to the flavors these excellent dishes have. The place is chic and hipster. You take the stairs downstairs and are greeted by a small quaint bar and seating area. The kitchen is open but enclosed with glass so you can see the action but not leave smelling like you were in it. The staff is super friendly and attentive. Pricing is great. The dishes they offer are amazing. Def top 3 restaurants for me in Winnipeg. The drinks are cocktails made with determination to quench any thirst and elevate you whilst doing so. Will def come back and recommend to anyone in the area or visiting, to stop by..” –Johanna A.

Whether coming in solo to enjoy some me-time or going with a bunch of friends, we think that the Marion Street Eatery would make a great breakfast destination.
Its charming rustic-industrial interiors give off a warm and inviting vibe, which we feel makes the perfect backdrop for a delicious meal and steaming-hot coffee at the start of the day.
First things first – we appreciate the thoughtfulness of their menu. The Marion Street Eatery is a friendly choice for both vegan and meat lovers, although it may still be limiting for vegetarians.
Some of the menu’s hero offerings include the Brisket Hash and Whiskey Apple Pancake Bowl, which most customers recommend. We also love that they have a create-your-own Three-Egg Omelette or Skillet, which makes room for some personalisation.
Despite aiming to offer a fine-dining feel, its generously-sized meals and fair prices make it accessible to most customers. We absolutely love the use of local ingredients, which pays homage to the community and the environment.
The only things that bring the Marion Street Eatery down are inconsistent food quality and seating availability. Some regulars have commented that their favorite dish is not always well-made, and that it can be tricky to find a table during the weekend breakfast rush.
Despite these, customers appreciate the friendliness of the staff, who are quick to attend to their every need. We think that this makes it a spot worth coming back to, as one is made to feel special at every visit.

Out of all the restaurants in this list, L’Arche Tova Cafe is by far the most affordable option. Diners can enjoy their bestselling Blue Collar Special for just $6.25, which is a steal when they discover how generous the portion is.
This nook is also known for its homemade Cinnamon Buns, which are baked fresh every day. Their simple but tasty menu also includes omelettes and skillets, as well as burgers, sandwiches, and salads – offering something for everyone, which we like.
Homemade bread items are also a key feature of this cafe, with many customers swearing by their rye and potato dill loaves.
Customers love coming in and being welcomed by friendly staff, which is a big plus. We love ourselves a great breakfast place where you come in and immediately feel like family.
Inside, L’Arche Tova Cafe offers a quiet, clean, and friendly atmosphere. We think that this is a great come-on for diners who want to enjoy their breakfasts in peace while enjoying the warmth of the community.
Service is also quick, which on-the-go individuals or extra-hungry diners will appreciate. Not everyone will come in wanting a long and luxurious sit-down, so their no-fuss approach will go over well with those who just need to eat and go.
What we love most about this cafe is its heart for people and the community. There is only a handful of paid staff, while the rest of the team are volunteers.
They also employ people with special needs, which we find truly remarkable. We think that this also makes L’Arche Tova Cafe an impressive social enterprise, serving great food from a place of love.
A downside is that they are only open 5 days of the week, which doesn’t include Sunday, a day where many people go out with families and friends for brekkie. They also don’t deliver and some customers attest to having difficulties parking at times.
Despite all these, we believe that L’Arche Tova Cafe is worth frequenting. Their delicious but affordable breakfasts and admirable advocacies make them a winner in our eyes.
Pros
- Big portions at affordable prices
- Great homemade baked goods
- Employs people with special needs
- Clean and down-to-earth vibe
Cons

For those who love their bread or are a dessert person, The Frenchway Café is their best bet. We are impressed by the freshness of their daily baked goods, as well as their half-price rack that features excess products from the day before.
We think that apart from dining in, this would make a great stop to stock up on fresh bread to take home and enjoy. This is an excellent way to bring home the Frenchway experience and share it with family and friends.
Certified crowd-pleasers include a mouthwatering series of eggs benedicts, delicious crepes, and of course, their exquisite bakery items. They also have a great dessert selection, so customers with a sweet tooth will certainly be spoilt for choice.
We love how the cafe wears its art-loving heart on its sleeve, as it features the works of local artists on its walls. These pieces are also for sale, so in a way, the cafe also functions as a mini-gallery.
Customers love the attention to detail given to each dish, which is reflected in the quality of its flavors. We like that even diners can tell that the chefs really pour their hearts into their cooking and baking.
Service is also quick but friendly, which goes over well with customers who just want to focus on their food. We also think that their menu is priced fairly, given the intricacy of each plate of food.
It saddens us that a handful of customers have experienced less-than-stellar treatment from staff, whether it was an impolite remark or lack of urgency. But it seems like these are just exceptions rather than the norm, which for us means that it is deserving of a second chance.
There are also limited parking slots and customers could get waitlisted for a while during the height of weekend service. A great alternative if one doesn’t have time to wait is to take out some bakery items to enjoy elsewhere.
Pros
- Longer hours compared to other breakfast and brunch spots
- Scrumptious bakery items and desserts
- Reasonable prices
- Fast and friendly service
- Half-price “Yesterday’s Baking” area
- Cosy cafe atmosphere
Cons
- Limited parking
- Occasionally long waiting times
- Some one-off customer experiences with unfriendly or inattentive staff
