Peasant Cookery is the place to go if you’re looking for a restaurant with a selection of deluxe comfort food. Located at the heart of the Exchange District, this place serves homemade dishes of top restaurant quality.
We love how its food selection ranges from homemade pickled vegetables and cured meats to wines, local beers, and craft cocktails. If you’re a fan of French-inspired dishes made of fresh and local produce, you will love this place.
We also love how it bakes its bread in-house daily, which is to die for, according to customers.
Its menu has a wide range of options, from appetizers to desserts. For dinner, the restaurant offers charcuterie and cheese with speciality cheese options.
However, its kitchen isn’t nut-free or gluten-free, so customers should notify the staff before ordering. Fortunately, the staff is responsive to several customer concerns, such as food-related sensitivities or allergies.
Aside from its homemade speciality and food selection, this restaurant also has a chic vibe that we love. Add it to the fact that it is located in a historical building in the Exchange District, which adds to its stylish interior.
Customers can also book their reservations online, which is a plus in our book. But if you prefer to have your order delivered, unfortunately, the restaurant’s delivery hours are limited.
We are also quite sad that it is closed on Sundays and Mondays. While this is not necessarily a deal-breaker, it is more convenient if the restaurant is always open, especially on weekends.
Pros
- French-inspired dinner menu
- House-made specialities
- Stylish interior and ambience
- Offers online orders and reservations
- Delivery options available
Cons
- Available for four days only
- Non-nut-free and non-gluten-free kitchen

Good ambience
“ My favorite restaurant in Winnipeg. it’s a chic place with fun decorations. The wait staff works tirelessly to provide you with a pleasant polite experience.
The food is PHENOMENAL and doesn’t take long at all to receive once ordered. The homemade bread is to die for. A great selection of appys.
Make sure you call ahead for a reservation so you’re not disappointed! “ – Vikki Pink ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐, Google Reviews
Professional staff
“ Great dinner spot with cozy atmosphere and comfy booths. We went for Wednesday Buck a shuck oyster and have two dozen oysters between two of us.
Great selection of local and imported beer and wine. Fries are done very well and gravy sauce on the steak had deep flavors. I don’t think we got the right cut of steak though, as it was quite chewy and we asked for medium rare but it was more on the rare side.
Service was great and professional. Parking is easy with free 1 hour parking option for the city of Winnipeg. “ – Luna D. K. ⭐⭐⭐⭐, Google Reviews
2. Bellissimo Restaurant & Lounge
CRITERIA | RATING |
FOOD SELECTION AND QUALITY | ★★★★★ 5/5 |
AMBIANCE | ★★★★★ 5/5 |
COST | ★★★★★ 5/5 |
CUSTOMER SERVICE | ★★★★★ 5/5 |
CONVENIENCE | ★★★★☆ 4/5 |
Are you craving Italian cuisine? If you are, Bellissimo should be on your bucket list.
It has such a welcoming atmosphere paired with good food. What started as a 25-seat dining room has grown to 140 seats, with the main dining room, lounge, and patio.
As one of Winnipeg’s most famous Italian restaurants, Bellissimo has an expansive food selection for customers to enjoy. We love how it also features fusion dishes aside from its Italian cuisine selection.
We think that adding fusion dishes to classic Italian cuisine is an excellent way to give customers a good dining experience without losing the restaurant’s authentic touch.
Moreover, its pasta dishes, entrées, and super specials are well-loved by customers. It also has gluten-free options.
This gets a point in our book because being responsive to customers with allergies or health problems shows how this restaurant prioritizes good customer service.
On top of that, its semi-fine dining atmosphere is also a plus. Customers can enjoy the best views, a deluxe ambience, and a comfortable atmosphere.
Another great thing about this restaurant is how it fosters customer convenience. Customers can order for pickup and delivery from appetizers to desserts, beverages, and extras.
Moreover, it also offers catering for events and gatherings. It provides several dishes that can serve up to 25 pax.
Customers who wish to book its catering service can order online, which we think is quite convenient.
Unfortunately, the restaurant is only available four days a week. We think it would be best to have more flexible operating hours, especially on weekends.
Pros
- Classic and fusion Italian dishes
- Gluten-free options
- Offers catering
- Pickup and delivery options are available
Cons
- Available for four days only
- No online booking

Authentic Italian food
“ 5 ✳️ The dining experience here was the amazing, warm and welcoming staff! Great atmosphere!
The waiter was amazing. The food!! 😱 one of the best most authentic Italian food I’ve ever had!
I started with Calamari, then a pasta dish that I can not recall the name 😓 and ended with the death by chocolate dessert 😋😋. I will be returning with friends! “ – Maryam A ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐, Google Reviews
Amazing ambience
“ Finally got around to dining here! The food, the ambience, the service, everything was amazing! For the antipasto, the baked brie was top notch! And my personal favourite for the entrée has to be the Agnello, which was cooked to such perfection that the meat just fell off the bone. Definitely going back for more! “ – Dhamya Kini ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐, Google Reviews

If you want to feel like royalty, even just for a night, you should head to 529 Wellington Steakhouse. It is located at the historic Ashdown House, built in 1913 by Winnipeg architect J. H. G. Russell.
The mansion was eventually renovated to become 529 Wellington Steakhouse, one of the restaurants in Winnipeg. Aside from its classic interior, we love this restaurant’s premier dishes and renowned wine list.
Its dishes, service, and ambience have had excellent ratings for almost 20 years as a fine dining restaurant.
It has also received numerous awards and accolades such as the Distinguished Restaurants of North America Award List, Winnipeg Nightlife Awards for Best Steakhouse, and the Wine Spectator for Best Award of Excellence from 2004 to 2020.
This place is the only restaurant in Winnipeg that serves Tour de Beef among its specialities. This delicacy is served by trained servers and allows customers to choose the cut, doneness, and sides or sauces.
Moreover, it has a cellar with over 700 selections and 17,000 bottles of wine. If you’re a wine enthusiast, this place is definitely for you.
The restaurant also has a wine program that offers the best wines in Winnipeg and Canada. This has won several recognitions from the Wine Spectator Magazine Award of Excellence and the Best of Ward of Excellence.
When it comes to convenience, however, we think there are limited options. Customers who wish to book a reservation can’t book online since the restaurant can only be reached by phone.
It also has no delivery options, and takeouts are available for pickup only. While adding delivery options is more convenient, it is understandable since some of its dishes may not be ideal for transport.

- One of the best steakhouses in Winnipeg
- Recipient of awards and accolades
- Serves Tour de Beef
- Extensive wine list
- Excellent service
Cons
- No online booking
- No delivery option

Professional service
“ The service we received here was executive. The staff and waiters were so polite, engaged, and professional. It is an expensive restaurant but I dare say the word-style pricing on the menu definitely softens the impact of the stated prices.
Example: seventy-five dollars instead of $75 😀 The portions were decent.
Another note sweet touch for this restaurant is its simple but tastefully furnished bathrooms. “ – Ebby ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐, Google Reviews
Excellent food quality
“ I’ve probably been here at least thirty times, and I have never left disappointed. It’s one of the best restaurants in the city, and definitely also one of my favourites.
They serve excellent food, and they are also very consistent. The service I’ve received has also always been fantastic.
It is definitely not a cheap place to go to, but the whole experience is worth the price. For dessert, I highly recommend the bread pudding! “ – Michal Brichacek ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐, Google Reviews

For three generations, InFerno’s Bistro has served Winnipeg its rich culinary history and the best of its French-inspired dishes. This family-owned restaurant is known for its inventive menus, wine list, and warm family atmosphere.
It is also a signature venue for jazz performances by local and visiting musicians. The Kirouac family, who owns this restaurant, is known to support Winnipeg’s local music scene.
We love how this restaurant provides a warm and inviting atmosphere to its customers, paired with excellent cuisine and good music.
It has an expansive food selection from sandwiches, appetizers, desserts, drinks and wine, and speciality dishes.
Another great thing about this restaurant is how convenient it is. It has flexible dining options such as dine-in, patio service, delivery, and pickup.
Currently, its dining room service has already resumed, following necessary health guidelines. But unfortunately, it doesn’t have any online reservation system, so you’ll have to call to secure a table.

Welcoming ambience
“ Excellent food. Service was very good. Ambience is more of a low-key family-style as opposed to fancy, dressy date place.
Nice variety of mains and specials. Was out of a few things the night I went.
Moule and frites are very good. Calamari was done nicely, not oily, and lightly battered. Lamb shank was done perfectly although the sauce was a bit sweet for my personal taste.
The desserts were both very good. They had a bout 8 to choose from and they all looked amazing.
The creme brûlée had the perfect amount of caramelized sugar. Crispy and not overly thick. “ – L. Lau ⭐⭐⭐⭐, Google Reviews
Exceptional customer service
“ If you want taste a different dishes with good wine, this is the place, is a lovely restaurant, exceptional client service, the only thing harder, was found one parking spot available near to the place. “ – Marco Herrera ⭐⭐⭐⭐, Google Reviews

If you’re someone who loves a lively and vibrant atmosphere for a dinner place, Bailey’s Restaurant is perfect for you. Inspired by Britain’s all-welcoming taverns, this restaurant offers an authentic experience with its ambience, music, food, and drinks.
Bailey’s has the best of both worlds. Customers can enjoy its vintage bar or enjoy watching live matches on its flat-screen TV.
Its multi-level restaurant located in a century-old building adds to the vintage vibe that we love. Since it has two levels, there’s a lot of space for customers who prefer fine dining in or chilling out at the lounge on the main floor.
We love how this restaurant has a variety of specialities for lunch, dinner, and catering. It also has a wine list for reds, whites, champagnes, etc.
Aside from that, we think this restaurant and lounge offers a vibrant atmosphere for families, friends, and even couples. It provides intimate dining options for customers, such as private dining rooms, private catered events, and private functions.
