Wouldn’t it be nice to be patrons of history while commemorating your special events?

The Millennium Centre in Winnipeg’s Exchange District is one of the few historic places in the city that functions as a trip-to-memory-lane event space.

Formerly the Candian Imperial Bank of Commerce, this building still dons its Neo-classical architectural type. You’ll find well-maintained Doric-style columns, marble floors and walls, winding staircases, and royal-esque tapestries.

Perhaps the Millennium Centre’s indoor highlight would be its magnificent glass dome situated at the center of the banking hall.

And from what we were told, the construction of this building’s ceiling makes the music sound a hundredfold better than regular sound systems!

That said, The Millennium Centre is the perfect place for you to hire orchestra and opera singers for your event. We think that the music resonating throughout the building adds to its historic charm.

And while the event space may lack the outdoor amenities present in other venues in Winnipeg, we still think it is a suitable space for receptions, weddings, and conference meetings.

For one, the venue’s Celebratory Hall can hold up to 300 guests and is perfect for bigger celebrations.

If you prefer something cozier and more intimate, the Tapestry Room accommodates up to 30 guests and is equipped with suitable furniture and decor to make your stay more comfortable.

Additionally, the building’s staff are helpful and friendly! They do their best to give guests the best experience they deserve at the Millennium Centre.

We think that having traditionally designed halls are worth paying for as they give your event an atmosphere similar to those grand parties from the past.

Pros

  • Indoors have great acoustics
  • Has halls for big and small celebrations

Cons

  • Lacks outdoor amenities other event spaces have (e.g. parking space)

Customer Reviews

Staff were incredibly helpful!

We had our Wedding last year at Millennium Centre.  Paul and the rest of the staff were so incredibly helpful and the venue is a stunning room to spend an evening in.  We had so many compliments on the Food (WOW Hospitality) provided.  We did a cocktail style reception with food stations and it worked great! – Maggi Brooker

Looking forward to visiting this beautiful historic building again.

A beautiful and historical old building of gleaming marble and domed glass! The food is incredible, the serving staff is fantastic and the feel of the venue is simply a one of a kind high class heaven. I have performed here for over 6 years and i look forward to each visit. – Shane Neustaeter

Excellent food and drinks are crucial to fun and successful events. And if you’re looking for an event space that comes with lunch and dinner menus, then this venue might be the right spot for you to enjoy your festivities!

As part of the Canda Inn’s group of entertainment centers, The Metropolitan Entertainment Centre is a multifunction venue that offers concert-like halls, lounge areas, and delicious food!

Check its website to see which food items you want for your event. Although, we recommend looking at the dinner menu as former clients mentioned that its array of food is exceptional for any event.

Besides the food, The Met also has movie theaters perfect for private viewings. You can now fulfill your dreams of booking an entire cinema all to yourself and your close guests!

Plus, with lounge areas and the rooftop patio available, this venue is great for all types of parties you plan to host in the future.

On the downside, some indoor facilities might need to be improved or changed. For example, one former client told us that the theater seats were quite uncomfortable.

Since movies and performances run for two hours or more, we think it is important to have comfortable and ergonomic seating. That way, guests will have pleasant experiences all throughout the event.

Another downside we noticed is that The Met may sometimes be understaffed during big events. One client said their guest had to wait almost an hour to be served.

To make it worst, the food that day wasn’t up to standards! For us, these areas need fine-tuning since The Met’s highlights are its food and entertainment centers.

Fine-tuning food quality and customer service consistency also make reserving The Met worth every penny and effort.

Pros

  • Has outdoor and indoor areas for reservation
  • Has its own catering menu

Cons

  • Needs to keep its overall service quality consistent

Customer Reviews

Had a beautiful experience at The Met!

I am amazed at how professional, yet personal the staff is towards the clientele.

Wonderful experience! Janet went out of her way to make our evening perfect.

We will be going back again. With more people. In February and possibly other dates as well. Beautiful evening and experience. Thank you Janet and staff!!! – Cyndi Slapinski

Staff was professional and impressive.

Attended a function at this venue and I was very impressed.   Everyone from the coat check to the bartenders and servers are very professional.   Food at the buffet were prepared perfectly.  The roast beef was very tender and juicy and that was not often found in any buffet.  Two thumbs up! – KC M

The Assiniboine Park and Zoo is one of the must-visit hotspots in Winnipeg. It is where you can see arctic animals, such as polar bears and harbor seals in the flesh without having to go to the Arctic region.

But did you know the famous zoo and park has event spaces you can rent for celebrations and corporate meetings?

Yes, you read that right! You can now celebrate your greatest moments with loved ones and colleagues surrounded by nature at the Assiniboine Park’s event spaces, such as the Qualico Family Centre.

Situated along the banks of the Riley Family Duck Pond, this event space is surrounded by trees and all sorts of flowers and plants.

Whichever auspicious event you’re hosting, you and your guests will enjoy the idyllic views of nature outside. You can even have a fairy-tale-like ambiance due to the birds and other animals you might see outside!

Suppose you book the center during winter, you can use the frozen pond as a skating rink for you and your guests to enjoy the holiday celebrations!

While Qualico’s capacity can only hold 80 to 120 guests, we still recommend this event space to anyone looking for a pleasant, intimate, and idyllic venue for their celebrations.

Additionally, previous customers who booked Qualico commend the park-owned restaurant’s delicious array of salads, soups, sandwiches, beverages, and breakfast food.

Though if there will be a con, we were told that the food quality is inconsistent. We think it is best if the food is always prepared fresh and delicious.

Plus, great food and service also mean clients will get the perks worth every penny they pay and the best experiences they deserve.

Pros

  • Event space is right at the Assiniboine Park and Zoo
  • Perfect for smaller and more intimate gatherings

Cons

  • Food prices are quite expensive
  • Food quality needs to be fine-tuned to stay consistent

Customer Reviews

Such a beautiful and well-run venue!

We had our wedding here, and it was perfect. Our guests absolutely raved about the delicious food, the friendly service and the stunning decor. We hardly had to decorate because the space is so lovely on its own, with an amazing view of the park that only gets better at night. In addition, the staff was wonderful. The park staff was very on-the-ball making sure that we had everything we needed in the months leading up to the big day. The manager greeted me when the wedding party arrived and let me know that he was there for whatever we needed. We are so glad that we held our wedding in such a beautiful and well-run venue. – Brittany Steele Todd Demers

Beautiful venue and exceptional food.

What a great addition to the ever-evolving Assiniboine Park. We love to take a walk around the duck pond and stop in for a lunch or brunch or even just a coffee and dessert. Food and service are great. We have attended a cocktail style wedding and a sit-down dinner wedding here. Both were beautiful. Food was exceptional. – Sidney Shapira

Another event space that showcases Winnipeg’s history is Fort Gibraltar. The place doesn’t look like any other event space; it dons the traditional Voyageur-style infrastructure and village it had back in the 1800s.

That said, events held here will have a touch of the French-Canadian fur traders who first walked the lands surrounding the venue.

Perhaps the place’s historic value is what makes it a five-star-rated event space people should consider booking.

And as a part of the Festival Du Voyageur organization, we can honestly say that Fort Gibraltar stays true to its heritage and commits to providing quality services and cultural experiences to those who book its function spaces.

In terms of events, weddings are perhaps the most held celebrations in this event space. However, we think the venue isn’t limited to saying your vows and finally tying the knot as you say ‘I do.’

The rustic and picturesque surroundings of Fort Gibraltar are perfect for all sorts of photoshoots. The backdrop of trees, sunlight, and bits of snow will create bucolic images you’ll cherish forever.

From what we were told, Fort Gibraltar is at its most beautiful during the summer. The golden rays of sun hitting the cabins, ground, and copse of trees create such a pastoral view you’ll want to keep with you.

But because summer is the peak season for Fort Gibraltar due to the workshops and tours, we recommend booking this event space early to secure a spot.

Or, alternatively, you may choose the autumn or winter seasons for your event. That way, you’ll somehow experience the chill and climate that bolstered the fur trade of the early settlers in the area.

Pros

  • Outdoor area is perfect for photoshoots
  • Place is beautiful during summer and winter.

Cons

  • Cand be challenging to book during summer and winter

Customer Reviews

Great place to celebrate French-Canadian history and culture!

Great place for history!  Blacksmith shop is awesome! Festival du Voyageur!! Great venue to celebrate my French-Canadian/Acadian heritage.  The gun battle between the French and English is awesome too. Love the ice sculptures and the addition of the wood carvers is great! – Albert Riezebos

Fun place to enjoy the Festival Du Voyageur!

Had a great time here for a conference this summer. Excellent space, and great food services.  I’ve visited here plenty of times during the Winter for Festival du Voyageur, but this was the first time I was there during the summer.  The entire area within the Fort walls can be licenced for liquor if you’re hosting a function like a wedding, conference, social, etc.  Check it out for sure! – Robert Laferrière

Another classical-style venue perfect for all sorts of celebrations and grand meetings is the Transcona Country Club in Dugald Road.

In fact, it’s been a top-rated venue for weddings, social parties, business meetings, graduation celebrations, and corporate events for many years now.

And like The Millennium Centre, Transcona Country Club’s lofty ceilings are designed to allow better sound acoustics and resonance. You’ll feel like watching an opera or ballet performance in the best box seats in a theatre!

From what we were told, Transcona has transitioned from an old name and management to improve its services further.

While the country club has expanded and shifted into a new management team, we still think it needs to commit to its promises of providing excellent service all the time.

A few customers who held weddings at the Transcona have expressed dissatisfaction with the venue’s catering menu. Others noted how disorganized the event was, albeit things went smoothly after issues were fixed in the middle of the day.

That said, it is crucial for the event space to always provide the same top-tier quality when it comes to its menu, amenities, function halls, staff, and organizers.

Sure, celebrations may be one-time events only. Still, we think it is worth paying premium prices if the events are well-organized and entail the best perks and experiences.

Now, since the Transcona dons a classical design, we think it is a suitable alternative event space to The Millennium Centre, should it not have any available reservation slots left.

Transcona Country Club also has outdoor green spaces that are perfect for garden festivities. It is a great venue for those who need indoor and outdoor spaces to fulfill their dream celebrations.

Pros

  • Has catering services included in its venue packages
  • Has outdoor green spaces

Cons

  • Needs to fine-tune its catering menu and services

Customer Reviews

Amazing venue, services, and organizers.

I went to a celebration of my friend’s life at Transcona Country Club, the service was amazing, the supervisor Bev was friendly and helpful, the bathrooms were clean and the food was delicious. My only complaint was that the coffee was a little bit strong. Other than that, my time honouring my friend’s life was respectful and enjoyable. I would highly recommend booking events here. – My Channel is a Joke

Made my wedding a less stressful event.

Bev really made my wife and I’s wedding really less stressed for she had vendors already recommended for our event! Really enjoyed our beautiful night ceremony and was blessed to have Bev help us! kept in communication with us and was great to communicate through all of it with the ongoing pandemic and with so many restrictions in play. – J
