Top 5 Gas Stations in Winnipeg
Did you know that in 1888, the first filling stations were side businesses of a city pharmacy in Germany? Back then, it was normal to purchase gasoline along with all sorts of medicine and medical equipment.
The boom of the industrial revolution called for gas stations to be built in prime locations to promote business and smooth travel.
Just for you, we explored different gas stations in Winnipeg and reviewed the best ones in this article.
How much do gas stations in Winnipeg charge on average?
To date, the average prices of fuel in Canada cost $1.95 per litre or $7.36 per gallon.
Fuel prices depend on factors such as location, taxes, level of competition, and market supply and demand.
The price for each fuel type also differs from one another. To get a rough idea, take a look at the table below:
How did we choose the top gas stations in Winnipeg?
We reviewed the best gas stations in Winnipeg according to these criteria:
1. Petro-Canada

> Fuels available | ★★★★★ 5/5 |
> Amenities | ★★★★★ 5/5 |

Petro-Canada is one of the notable gas stations in Winnipeg. It currently has more than ten branches, all of which are conveniently located, with some even near the fringe areas.
In terms of fuel, choices are currently gasoline and diesel. We also appreciate that it carries different grades for each type.
Gasoline types include ethanol-blended and octane (87, 89, 91, and 94); while for diesel, low-sulphur and biodiesel are available.
We also have to give it to this gas station for having electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in some of its branches.
Another highlight of this gas station is that some of its branches have car wash facilities that are open to all customers.
They may also avail of the Season Pass that currently costs $209 and is good for 90 days. The price might be steep, but we think it helps customers save money on other services.
Dividing $209 by 90 days, each car wash will cost $2.30, which is a steal compared to a other car washes in Winnipeg that cost at least $10.
Now despite the cheap price, it’s unfortunate that a “full” car wash at this gas station only lasts three minutes and can be only availed once a day.
This might not be enough for customers who want a thorough clean.
We’re also iffy that the Season Pass isn’t honoured in some Petro-Canada stations, so do take note of this before availing.
Pros
- Some branches have car wash services
- EV charging stations available
- Season Pass perks
Cons
- Full car wash only lasts 3 minutes
- Some branches don’t honour Season Passes
Customer Reviews
Staff are friendly and accommodating
“Friendly staff. Always fast paced to pump fuel. When line ups are long, staff guide vehicles to open pumps to move things along more smoothly.” – Susann Sinclair
Offers gas prices that are lower than others
“Love it here. So nice to see my people and Long Plain have a thriving business. Almost always busy as heck, so long wait times to receive gas and pay, but they consistently have lower than normal gas prices so it’s understandable. Gas attendants kind af, and cashiers not fake nice, just real. Been choosing to come here instead of co-op for over a year now. It’s great!” – Candice St. Cyr
2. Red River Co-op Gas Bar

Red River Co-op Gas is part of a cooperative group of businesses comprising food stores, pharmacies, convenience stores, gas bars, and home centres.
In terms of its gas stations, we’re pleased to find that they’re usually accompanied by pharmacies, convenience stores, oil supply centres, and car wash areas.
Their gas stations also have air pumping stations available, which we think is efficient for those who need to inflate their tires. Although, it’s just a tad disappointing that some branches don’t have enough space to accommodate larger vehicles.
We think that the Co-op’s management should consider expanding these spaces to accommodate more customers.
It was also disappointing to hear that some of the air pumps and car wash water supplies weren’t working properly. We think it wouldn’t hurt if they regularly inspected their amenities and checked if repairs or maintenance are needed.
Other than amenities, Red River also offers memberships that offer discounts on fuel, car washes, and in-store shopping.
What we liked about the membership programme is that registering will only cost $5 and is valid for a lifetime.
It also doesn’t require renewals or annual fees, so that’s a plus for those who aren’t fond of paying additional fees to maintain their perks.
Pros
- Branches have car washes, pharmacies, and oil supply centres
- Affordable membership rates
- Lifetime membership
Cons
- Small spaces for pumping stations
- Some amenities need repair
Customer Reviews
Great car wash and love the free air for tires
“This is my go-to gas bar. Clean, great service and better selection of slurpies then 7/11 for the kiddos. Lots of room to wait for gas inside. Car wash does a good job. Free air for your tires.” – Andrew M.
Long lines, but a clean car is worth waiting for
“Have been using Co-op since forever. The store is clean, the staff are friendly and there are a lot of pumps. Sometimes the car wash lines are long, but a clean carc is worth the wait.” – Daphne Y.
3. Esso

> Amenities | ★★☆☆☆ 2/5 |
ACCESSIBILITY | ★★★★☆ 4/5 |

Esso is another well-known gas station that has more than ten branches within Winnipeg.
While it currently doesn’t have EV charging stations like other gas stations, we still appreciate it for promoting sustainability through its products.
An example would be its engine-efficient oils for different vehicle types. From what we’ve found, these oils reduce energy used, which in turn reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
Another strong point of these motor oils is that they reduce engine wear and tear, which we think is great for maintaining cars and protecting them from other types of damage.
In terms of its amenities, we love that Esso’s branches offer manual and touchless car washes.
Not only do they shorten the queues, but we also think that having two options available accommodates customers with different mobility needs.
On the downside, we’re not so happy to learn that some branches don’t have functional water pumps and rotating brushes.
It’s also disappointing to hear that the touchless car washes don’t clean as thoroughly and efficiently.
Since free car washes are offered as one of the rewards in exchange for PC Optimum points, we also think it will be nicer if the facilities work well.
We’re also not to pleased to know that for every 10,000 points, customers get a free quick car wash.
This reward seems unsatisfying, given that customers need to collect thousands of points from their purchases just to get a wash from faulty facilities.
On a brighter note, we find the PC Optimum app – customers can collect points from every purchase and use them to avail of discounts and items – convenient for shopping at Esso’s partner pharmacies and grocery stores.
We also appreciate Esso for offering Speedpass+, another online app that allows contactless payment for fuel and fast collection of PC Optimum points.
Pros
- Offers engine-efficient motor oils
- Has manual and touchless car washes
- Offers mobile apps for discounts and rewards
Cons
- Could improve some of its amenities
- Some rewards are demotivating
Customer Reviews
Kudos to the staff being considerate to all customers
“Good customer service! Very kind cashier. I was being harassed by a white guy in the parking lot because I bought a stranger a sandwich. This white guy was harassing the person I bought the sandwich for also. When I called the store to let the cashier know about the guy who was swearing at me in the parking lot, he was very sympathetic and got rid of the white guy harassing people. Despite living right by here I’ve only gone to this gas station twice but now I’ll come back more often because I know they value people & their safety.” – Customer Chick
Love the PC Optimum points programme
“I just stopped in to get a Pepsi. Service was friendly and informative. I did not know that Esso had PC Optimum points program but I do now and I think it’s great.” – Brenda Allen
4. DOMO

DOMO has been operating since 1958 and currently has 90 branches located in different areas of Winnipeg.
We learned that this gas station offers lower fuel prices, which is great. We’re also happy about its Rollback Days – customers can get 4 cents off per litre of the posted price on Mondays and Thursdays.
That said, it’s just a tad unfortunate that some DOMO branches don’t offer diesel. Take note of this when looking for the right station.
Another limitation of this gas station is that it currently doesn’t offer car wash facilities in Winnipeg like other filling stations do.
On a brighter note, we’re pleased to find that DOMO partners with dealers such as restaurants, motels, and general merchandise stores.
A highlight of this gas station is its DOMO Club membership. We enquired about this service and found that its membership card is eligible at the gas station’s discount outlet stores.
Members may also use their cards to get discounts on fuel, food items, and self-serve facilities like air pumps.
That said, it’s worth mentioning that the discount outlets are available in just eight branches in Winnipeg.
Finally, we also love DOMO’s involvement in providing scholarships to children via the “Every Child Matters” programme. They launched this in partnership with the Southern Chiefs’ Organization (SCO) and Corpell’s Water.
Pros
- Offers rollback prices on Mondays and Thursdays
- Has discount outlet cards and stores
- Great CSR initiative
Cons
- Some branches don’t offer diesel
- Currently doesn’t have car washes
Customer Reviews
Staff were very accommodating, even if I came a few minutes before closing time
“Thanks guys ! For the times when I came close to closing time and still filled my gas, for filling my windshield whiper fluid, and wiped my windows, and also fixinģ mistakes.” – Sherry Lovie
The most amazing customer service in Winnipeg
“I absolutely love the Domo on Pembina Highway the gentleman that I always deal with during the days is absolutely the sweetest man in the world!! When I placed my order he already knows what I want and asked me if I want one or two?? The most amazing customer service in Winnipeg!!” – Lori Argle
5. Husky
CRITERIA | RATING |

CUSTOMER SATISFACTION | ★★★★☆ 4.5/5 |
Many gas stations offer car washes, but we think Husky’s four types – self-serve, touchless, rollover, and tunnel washers – make it more advantageous than others.
It’s also a plus that customers may opt for a Choice Car Wash, which includes combining two different car wash types together. This gives customers the chance to tailor washes that will give them the most thorough clean.
Another thing we love about this gas station is that its restaurant delicious home-cooked meals. We tried and enjoyed their hot beef sandwich, breakfast club sandwich, ham, cheese, and mushroom omelette, hamburger steak dinner, and apple crisps.
On the downside, Husky has currently retired its app, so customers can no longer collect points to redeem discounts on fuel, car washes, and other store items in the future.
That said, we still appreciate Husky for honouring former members’ current myHuskyapp points and rewards.
Customers can still use their remaining points to claim any deals or items.
The same goes for Husky’s gift cards since they’re no longer available for purchase.
Still, we like that these don’t expire and are still valid for availing of fuel and other gas station services.
We also appreciate this gas station for providing accessibility services to customers with disabilities. They may just call in to have staff bring fuel and other goods to them in their homes.
However, these services are apparently quite limited and slow. We’re told that some branches only have one staff assigned to this service.
Pros
- Offers four car wash types
- Delicious restaurant meals
- Gift cards have no expiry
Cons
- App has been retired
- Limited accessibility services
